Seminar on Fire Safety in High-Rise Buildings held

Chandigarh 14 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Fire Awareness and Safety Association organized a seminar and Fire Safety Leadership Award ceremony on the topic “Fire Safety in High-Rise Buildings” on 13 February 2026 at the Conference Hall, Parade Ground, Sector-17, Chandigarh. The prestigious event received special support from Minds Media and Management Private Limited.

The seminar witnessed the notable presence of renowned architects, engineers, social workers, and fire safety experts from across the country. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, former Member of Parliament and Additional Solicitor General of India,  Satya Pal Jain, stated that in today’s era of rapidly developing urban areas, the number of high-rise buildings is continuously increasing, and therefore prioritizing fire safety measures has become extremely essential. He emphasized that merely framing rules is not sufficient; strict implementation and periodic inspections are equally important. He called upon citizens, builders, and the administration to collectively fulfill their responsibilities.

As the Guest of Honour, former Mayor of Chandigarh Davesh Moudgil stated that expanding awareness regarding fire safety in society is the need of the hour. He said that safety standards should be adopted from the initial stage of building construction and that regular inspection of firefighting equipment and mandatory training programs must be conducted. He appreciated the efforts being undertaken by the Fire Awareness and Safety Association.

The seminar was presided over by the President of the Fire Awareness and Safety Association, Jasjyot Singh Almast. In his presidential address, he stated that the objective of the organization is to create lasting awareness in society regarding fire safety. He informed that the association regularly conducts training camps, public awareness campaigns, and technical discussions to provide a safe environment for citizens.

On this occasion, the keynote speaker, Professor Architect Manujit Khurana from Indo Global College of Architecture, elaborated in detail on modern fire safety provisions in high-rise buildings, emergency exit systems, fire-resistant construction materials, and technical standards. The event was also graced by the presence of the Association’s Chairman, Architect Surinder Bahga and Spokesperson, Engineer Jasjit Suri, who shared insights on the organization’s future plans and various safety-related initiatives.

During the program, 30 dedicated individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of fire safety and public awareness were honored with the “Fire Safety Leadership Award.” All the awardees have played a significant role in spreading awareness about safety, conducting training programs, and promoting safe building construction practices in society.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the organizers expressed their gratitude to all guests, participants, and supporting organizations and reiterated their commitment to continue organizing such programs in the future to strengthen public awareness regarding fire safety. The event proved to be a significant initiative towards building a safe and aware society.
