Four-day ‘Ragini Utsav’ begins with vibrant performances
Melodious strains of Haryanvi folk music echo at Kalagram
Street play on ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ marks the opening
Chandigarh 12 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A four-day mega “Ragini Utsav–2026” commenced on a colourful note today at Kalagram in Chandigarh. The festival is being organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) under the Ministry of Culture. The chief guest on the occasion was Senior Deputy Mayor Jasmanpreet Singh. The event began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The opening was followed by a street play presented by Chandigarh’s Samvad Theatre Group on the theme “Swachhta Pakhwada,” based on the Central Government’s Swachh Bharat Mission initiative. The performance aimed to raise awareness among people about the importance of cleanliness.
Event in-charge Rajesh Bakshi informed that a total of 12 Ragini troupes from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have been invited to perform during the four-day musical festival. The evening became more musical when noted Ragini singer Vikas Pehsauriya and his team took the stage and opened the performances with their popular songs. His renditions, including “Pari Naak Subasa, Muh Batvasa…” and “Ghamand Ka Sir Neecha Hota Hai Ek Din…”, received enthusiastic applause from the audience.Ragini singer Ravi Sampla and his team also mesmerised the audience with a series of performances, presenting compositions like “Chalo Us Des Mein Jahan Sangeet Ho…” and “Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi Jhagde Ki Jad – Jar, Joru Aur Zameen…”, which were widely appreciated.On the second day of the festival (March 13), renowned Ragini artists Satvir (Captain Bishnia), Somvir and Om Prakash Bali Sharma will perform.
The four-day musical event will also feature award-winning Ragini singers such as Inderjit Kundian, Sonu Bhagna, Narendra Dangi, Rakesh Bharania, Sandhya Sharma and Surender Sharma. The festival will be held daily from 5 pm onwards and entry for the public is free. On the occasion, NZCC Director Mohammad Furqan Khan said that the four-day series of Ragini folk performances is an important effort to bring the rich cultural heritage of Haryana closer to the people of the city, especially the youth. He invited music lovers to be a part of this unique cultural celebration.
