CU Punjab Inspires Young Eco-Warriors Through Bird Nest-Making Workshop to ‘Build a Nest, Save the Earth’
Bathinda 29 April ( PDL ) : Transforming environmental awareness into meaningful action, the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) empowered young minds to become guardians of biodiversity through a unique two-day hands-on workshop titled “Build a Nest: Save the Earth: Hands-on Workshop on Bird Nest-Making.” Organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Technology on April 28–29, 2026, at the Aryabhata Academic Block, the initiative blended compassion, conservation, and creativity to address the pressing challenges of climate change and habitat loss.
In his inspiring presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari reminded participants that humanity, as the most organized species on Earth, bears a collective responsibility to safeguard all living beings from environmental distress. He underscored that small yet meaningful actions—such as creating protective nests for birds—can become powerful symbols of coexistence and conservation. Stressing the importance of transferring such practical environmental skills to younger generations, he called upon youth to become sensitive custodians of nature and active contributors to a sustainable future. Adding practical depth to the programme, Manoj Lila Bhatt from Ecoroot Foundation led engaging demonstrations on bird-friendly nest construction techniques. Through interactive sessions, he illustrated how community-driven conservation efforts can protect avian life and strengthen ecological harmony.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Yogalakshmi KN, Workshop Convener and Dean, School of Environment and Earth Sciences, who emphasized that the initiative was not merely a skill-building exercise but a larger movement to nurture ecological consciousness among youth. She highlighted the urgent need to protect birds and other vulnerable species facing the harsh realities of climate change, deforestation, and shrinking habitats. Prof. Sunil Mittal further sensitized participants about adopting environmentally responsible lifestyles and urged them to actively support groundwater conservation, linking biodiversity protection with broader environmental sustainability.
Concluding the workshop, Prof. Vinod K. Garg, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Technology, expressed gratitude to all participants for contributing to the programme’s success. He remarked that the workshop effectively blended environmental education with practical skill development, inspiring participants to become active contributors to nature conservation and Mission LiFE’s vision of sustainable living. Through such transformative initiatives, CU Punjab continues to foster socially responsible education and empower youth to emerge as committed custodians of the environment.
