Chandigarh 13 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Most people consume beetroot either as part of a salad or in the form of juice. Due to its vibrant red color, most people primarily recognize it as a food that boosts blood levels, and they consume it for precisely this reason. However, very few people are aware that eating it offers not just one, but numerous benefits. Today, we are going to share some of these very benefits...
**Rich in Nutrients:** Packed with beneficial properties, beetroot contains sodium, potassium, phosphorus, chlorine, iodine, iron, and various other essential vitamins. Consuming it helps increase hemoglobin levels. As one ages, energy and physical strength naturally begin to decline; however, consuming beetroot helps revitalize energy levels, even in older individuals. It is also rich in antioxidants, which help maintain a youthful appearance.
**Beneficial for the Skin:** If you are feeling lethargic or fatigued, try eating some beetroot. It contains carbohydrates that help boost the body's energy levels. You can also boil white beetroot in water and strain the liquid; this water is highly effective for treating boils, skin irritation, and acne. It can also be used to cleanse the skin during bouts of measles or fever.
**Heart Health:** Beetroot contains a chemical compound called nitrate, which significantly lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart disease. Beetroot is considered highly effective in the treatment of anemia, as it aids the body's blood-formation process. Due to its abundance of iron, it enhances the body's ability to keep red blood cells active. Furthermore, consuming beetroot boosts the body's immune system and accelerates its wound-healing capabilities.
**Managing High Blood Pressure:** Researchers at the University of London conducted a study involving patients who consumed beetroot juice on a daily basis. They observed a reduction in high blood pressure levels among patients who drank a mixed beetroot juice blend (combined with carrots or apples) every day. According to the study, consuming just two cups of mixed beetroot juice daily is sufficient to keep blood pressure under control. However, excessive consumption may prove to be harmful.
**Constipation and Piles:** If you consume beetroot regularly, you will not suffer from issues related to constipation. It is also highly beneficial for individuals suffering from piles. Consuming a glass—or even half a glass—of this juice before going to bed at night acts as a therapeutic remedy.
Those who engage in strenuous workouts at the gym should include beetroot in their meals. It boosts energy levels in the body and helps alleviate fatigue. Furthermore, in cases of high blood pressure, drinking this can restore the body's blood pressure to normal levels within just one hour.
