Discussions Held on Issues Concerning Chandigarh Employees
Chandigarh 2 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Led by Niranjan, the Organizing Secretary of the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) for Punjab and Chandigarh, a delegation comprising Badri Prasad (BMS In-charge for Chandigarh), Shivamurat Yadav (Additional General Secretary and PGI Chief), and the President and General Secretary of the PGI Non-Faculty Union met with the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda. During the meeting, issues concerning employees in Chandigarh were discussed; notably, a significant memorandum outlining the demands of the PGI Employees Union—affiliated with the BMS, Chandigarh—was formally presented to the Honorable Union Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda. The Sangh primarily advocated for the reinstatement of four contractual security guards at PGI who had been dismissed over a year ago. Among other demands, the delegation sought to address the concerns of employees at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. These demands included extending the benefits of HPCA (Hospital Patient Care Allowance) to Ministerial, Engineering, and Group A & B employees; ensuring the payment of bonuses to eligible staff; and expediting the implementation of the 3rd Cadre Review.
The Sangh also called for ensuring better medical facilities for PGI employees and their dependents, specifically requesting full reimbursement—under the CCS (MA) Rules, 1944—for the actual costs incurred on expensive implants such as IOLs, stents, TKRs, and THRs. Additionally, the delegation requested the removal of restrictions currently imposed under the CGHS framework, arguing that this scheme is not applicable to PGI employees. The Sangh emphasized that all these issues have remained pending for a considerable period, adversely affecting both the interests and the morale of the employees. Furthermore, the delegation also held discussions regarding issues pertinent to the Education Department. The Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh has earnestly urged the Honorable Minister to give sympathetic consideration to these demands and to issue directives to the concerned officials for prompt and time-bound action, thereby facilitating the resolution of these long-standing problems. Shivamurat Yadav, Additional General Secretary of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Chandigarh, and the official in charge of PGI affairs, stated that the meeting was highly productive. The Honorable Minister assured that issues related to PGI would be resolved expeditiously. The Sangh expressed hope that the government would take positive decisions, keeping in mind the legitimate rights and welfare of the employees.
