Subhash Sharma Urges Expansion of NFL Nangal Plant; Meets Union Minister
Chandigarh 1 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab BJP State Vice President Subhash Sharma today met Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda and strongly raised the issue of expansion of the National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) plant at Nangal. During the meeting, Sharma submitted that the NFL Nangal unit, being one of the oldest fertilizer plants in the country, holds immense potential for expansion and modernization. He emphasized that strengthening the plant would significantly benefit the agricultural sector while also boosting employment in the region.
Following the meeting, Sharma stated that the Union Minister gave a positive response and assured that the proposal for expansion of the Nangal plant would be considered seriously. “The NFL plant at Nangal has played a historic role in supporting farmers, particularly during the Green Revolution. Despite its age, it continues to be strategically important for fertilizer supply in northern India,” Sharma said.
Highlighting the need for immediate attention, he added, “There is ample scope for expansion and modernization of the plant. Enhancing its capacity will ensure better availability of fertilizers to farmers in Punjab and neighboring states, especially during peak agricultural seasons.” Sharma further underlined that expanding the plant would not only strengthen agricultural infrastructure but also create significant employment opportunities for the youth. “The region requires sustainable industrial growth. Reviving and expanding the NFL plant will generate direct and indirect jobs, providing much-needed economic support to local families,” he said.
Referring to the current status of the plant, Sharma noted that the facility has been operating below its full potential due to outdated infrastructure and limited capacity. He stressed that timely intervention by the central government could transform the unit into a modern, efficient production hub.
“With technological upgradation and policy support, the Nangal unit can once again emerge as a key contributor to India’s fertilizer production and play a vital role in achieving self-reliance in the sector,” Sharma said. Reiterating his commitment, Sharma assured that he would continue to pursue the matter with the central government to ensure early action on the proposal. “The expansion of NFL Nangal is not just an industrial issue; it is directly linked to the welfare of farmers and the future of our youth. I am confident that the Government of India will take a positive decision in the larger public interest,” he added.
