Chandigarh May 8 (Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Defending champions Minerva Academy Football Club continued their impressive run in the national round of the AIFF Sub-Junior League 2025–26 with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Football4Change at the Madras FC Ground. After securing a dramatic late win against Jamshedpur FC in their opening fixture, Minerva once again displayed the mentality of defending champions in a high-intensity encounter packed with momentum swings, attacking football, and a dramatic stoppage-time finish. Both teams started in identical 4-3-3 formations, setting the tone for an open and fast-paced contest right from kickoff.
Minerva made the perfect start in the 7th minute when Rimoson converted a free-kick opportunity with composure to hand his side an early lead. Just a minute later, Minerva doubled their advantage through Maniton, who produced a stunning long-range strike that flew past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. For much of the first half, Minerva dominated proceedings with aggressive pressing, quick transitions, and sharp attacking movement, leaving Football4Change struggling to settle into rhythm. However, the game shifted in the 22nd minute when Minerva conceded an unfortunate own goal following a defensive misunderstanding. The goal injected belief into Football4Change, who gradually began finding space and confidence in attack.
Their persistence paid off just before halftime as they completed a well-worked move in the 45th minute to level the score at 2-2 heading into the break. The second half continued at the same relentless pace, with both teams pushing aggressively for control in an increasingly tense contest. Minerva regained the lead in the 65th minute through Akash, who drove forward before unleashing a powerful strike into the net to restore the advantage at 3-2. But Football4Change responded once again only five minutes later, finding another equaliser in the 70th minute to make it 3-3 and set up a dramatic finale. As the match entered deep stoppage time, the game appeared headed for a draw before Minerva produced one final moment of quality.
In the 90+7 minute, T. Kipgen surged down the left flank and delivered a dangerous cross toward the far post, where Mamesh arrived perfectly to guide home the winning goal from close range. The dramatic winner sparked wild celebrations as Minerva players and staff rushed toward the corner flag after sealing another memorable victory.The final whistle confirmed a thrilling 4-3 win for Minerva Academy, giving the defending champions two wins from two matches in Group B of the national round.
