PSSF supports sanitation workers' strike
Chandigarh 7 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Subordinate Services Federation Head Office 1406/22 B supported the sanitation workers' strike and demanded from the Punjab government that the demands of the employees be fulfilled as per the promises made during the elections. Municipal Employees Action Committee Punjab and Safai Sewak Union Punjab have called for an indefinite strike by sanitation workers across Punjab by giving up work on the demand of making casual workers permanent, increasing the minimum wage to Rs. 40,000 and implementing the old pension scheme. Today, more than 140 stations and sanitation workers under corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Punjab are going on a complete strike.
Today, by participating in various rallies at different places, PSSF Senior Vice President Karamjit Singh Bihla, Vice President Anil Kumar Barnala, Darshan Belumajra from Patiala, Lakhwinder Khanpur, Jaswinder Soja, PWD Field and Workshop Workers Union Senior Vice President Darshan Cheema from Barnala, Balraj Maur Federation leader Kishore Chand Gaj from Bathinda, Sukhchain Singh, Darshan Sharma, Harnek Gehri, Davinder Bittu from Tarn Taran, Baljinder Singh Satnam Singh, Sukhdev Changaliwala from Sangrur, Malvinder Singh Sandhu, Jagga Singh Alisher from Mansa, Darshan Nangal said that this strike is not a relief for the employees, it is a compulsion. Because 90% of the employees of Punjab are unskilled and only 10 thousand are working on a meager salary. Due to inflation, the livelihood of the households is very difficult. The government that came to power about 4 and a half years ago had come to power by seeking votes with the broom symbol of these same sanitation workers. At that time, the Honorable Chief Minister had said that no one in our government would need to hold protests or demonstrations. The leaders said that sanitation workers should be made permanent without any conditions, old pension should be restored, salaries should be paid on time and from the government treasury, minimum wage should be increased to 40000 per month, and if a poor employee dies, his family should be given a job. They said that the Punjab government has been making excuses for a long time. They would have refused by holding a meeting. That is why the employees are struggling.
