AAP’s false narrative against Sri Akal Takht Sahib and its attempt to stage dharna against SAD boomerangs : SAD

Chandigarh 20 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said attempts by the ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) to spread a false narrative regarding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s deposition at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and its attempt to stage dharnas against the Shiromani Akali Dal had boomeranged. Addressing a press conference here,  SAD Chief Spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler said AAP had attempted to gherao and stage protest at district headquarters of the SAD but its attempts failed miserably as they could not muster support of requisite numbers despite help from the police force. He said the videos emerging from different districts of the state had made it clear that only a meagre number of AAP workers assembled on the call of the party making the entire attempt a flop show. The SAD leader said similarly when Sri Akal Takht Sahib had released the video of the deposition of the Chief Minister before the Takht, the latter accepted Sri Akal Takht’s directive to get his...

UPL Raises Alarm Over Counterfeit Electron Seed Treatment; Farmers Urged to Stay Vigilant

Following the seizure of 2,500 litres of fake Electron, the company calls for greater farmer awareness and cautions against buying unlabelled, low-priced products that may harm crops in the long run.

Meerut 20 June ( PDL ) : UPL has issued a fresh warning against the growing presence of counterfeit agricultural inputs after 2,500 litres of fake Electron, its seed treatment product, were seized during an Agriculture Department raid in Western Uttar Pradesh in May 2026. The company said laboratory testing has also been carried out on the seized material and urged farmers to exercise caution while purchasing seed treatment products.

Electron is UPL's seed treatment solution designed to protect seeds and seedlings during the early stages of crop establishment. The product combines fungicidal and insecticidal protection to safeguard seeds from early pests and diseases while supporting healthy crop establishment. UPL says that using genuine seed treatment products plays an important role in ensuring proper crop development and long-term farm productivity.

The counterfeit material seized during the raid lacked several basic product details that are expected on genuine agricultural products, including manufacturing and expiry information and batch number. UPL said the absence of such information should serve as a warning sign for farmers before making a purchase and stressed that products without proper labelling should be avoided.

The company said the incident highlights the need for stronger awareness among farmers regarding lookalike agrochemical products. UPL has been consistently promoting farmer awareness through programmes aimed at educating growers about responsible agricultural practices and informed product selection. It believes such initiatives complement wider farmer awareness campaigns being undertaken across the country to encourage informed decision-making and sustainable farming practices.

UPL said awareness is one of the strongest tools available to protect farmers from lookalike products entering the market. The company advised farmers to carefully inspect product labels, verify expiry dates, check manufacturing details, examine ingredient information, take an invoice copy from the retailer, scan the QR code on the pack to verify its genuineness, check the seal of the pack and purchase products only after confirming that all mandatory information is available on the packaging. It cautioned that products offered at unusually low prices may appear attractive but could fail to deliver the expected performance and may adversely affect crop health over time.

A UPL spokesperson said, "The increase in fake agricultural products is a matter of serious concern for the farming community. Farmers should remain alert and ensure that they purchase the right seed treatment products for their crops instead of opting for cheaper alternatives that may not provide the desired results and could damage their yield in the long term. Before making any purchase, authentication is important. Creating awareness among farmers is essential to preventing the spread of lookalike products and protecting their investments. We urge farmers to reach out to UPL representatives on the ground for any support in this regard and report any suspicious trade that they might come across."

The company reiterated that safeguarding farmers against fake agricultural inputs remains a priority and said it will continue supporting awareness initiatives while working with authorities to address the challenge posed by counterfeit products. UPL maintained that informed purchasing decisions and greater vigilance at the farmer level can play a significant role in curbing the supply of fake products and protecting crop productivity.
