Villy strongly raised the issue of Notices been given to Gurudwaras & Mandirs of Chandigarh for Violations.

Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh also raised the concerns of the residents of Chandigarh on paid parking.

Villy demanded 2 seats to be reserved for Sikhs in Nominated Councillors of Chandigarh.

Villy also demanded to raise the pension of Senior Citizens and Widows in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh 14 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A joint delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh and Student Organisation of India (SOI) met the Hon’ble Administrator of Chandigarh and Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria, to raise several important public issues concerning religious institutions of Chandigarh, residents of Chandigarh and students of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The delegation was led by Charanjit Singh Villy, State President, Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh. During the meeting, Charanjit Singh Villy submitted a memorandum to Hon’ble Administrator highlighting various pressing concerns affecting the people of Chandigarh. One of the major issues raised was regarding Gurudwaras and Mandirs in Chandigarh receiving violation notices from the Administration. Shiromani Akali Dal requested the Hon’ble Administrator to intervene in the matter and direct the Administration to regularize All Religious Places in Chandigarh as a one-time measure, keeping in view the sentiments of the people.

Villy also strongly raised the issue of representation of the Sikh community in the nomination of the 9 nominated Councillors in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and demanded at least 2 seats of Nominated Councillors to be reserved for the Sikh community for fair representation in the democratic process. Another important matter discussed was the enhancement of pension for Senior Citizens and Widows in Chandigarh. Shiromani Akali Dal requested the Hon’ble Administrator to increase the pension amount, which is presently Rs. 1000/-, considering the prevailing economic conditions and rising daily expenses faced by Senior Citizens and Widows.

The issue of poor management of parking lots in Chandigarh was also brought to the notice of the Hon’ble Administrator. Villy highlighted how mismanagement at parking areas is causing inconvenience and hardship to city residents. Photographs showcasing the condition and traffic congestion at parking sites were also submitted during the meeting. Villy also appraised the Hon’ble Administrator that Sign Boards on the roads in Punjab University have been changed by removing Punjabi Language from the boards. The matter regarding the newly constructed auditorium in Panjab University was also discussed, and Akali Dal, Chandigarh demanded it to be named after, ‘Baba Fateh Singh & Baba Zorawar Singh’.

The Hon’ble Administrator gave ample time to the delegation and patiently listened to all the issues raised during the meeting. He assured the delegation that appropriate directions would be issued to the concerned Administration departments for necessary action on the matters discussed. Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh expresses gratitude and appreciation towards the Hon’ble Administrator and Governor of Punjab for giving valuable time and hearing the concerns of the people of Chandigarh.
