Congress welcomes announcement of municipal elections
Asks officials, police to remain non-partisan, without fear or favour
Chandigarh 11 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Congress today welcomed the announcement of the municipal elections scheduled for May 26, expressing confidence that it will do well across the state. “We welcome the announcement of the local bodies elections by the Punjab State Election Commission. We are confident of doing well in these elections across the state”, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said in a statement here today.
At the same time, he added, “we expect the commission to ensure free and fair polls”. He alleged that the past experience about the local bodies elections has not been good, with local administration and the police playing in the hands of the ruling party. “Let us make it clear that this is 2026. Next elections are less than nine months away. The Congress is certain to form the government. We will not forget. We will not forgive”, he cautioned against any partisanship or high handedness by any official.
“Our advice to all the officials, both in the police as well as the administration, is that do your job with honesty and integrity without any fear of favour”, he advised the officials, while adding, “the countdown for the current government has already started and the municipal elections will be the last nail in its coffin”.
