Senior Congress spokesperson Teena Choudhary alleged a multi-crore scam in Verka over subsidized cattle fodder seeds
Demand raised for a Vigilance probe and CBI inquiry into the matter
Chandigarh 23 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : At a press conference held in Chandigarh today, senior Congress spokesperson Teena Choudhary along with Punjab Kisan Union president Charanjeet Singh Brar from Hoshiarpur alleged a multi-crore scam in Verka Milkfed related to subsidized cattle fodder seeds provided to farmers. The leaders stated that in 2025, Verka Milkfed had floated tenders to provide hybrid maize seeds to farmers at a 30 percent subsidy. The tender was reportedly awarded to a Mansa-based firm, Nav-Durga Trading Company. It was alleged that the firm only submitted bills for the seeds, while no actual supply was made.
During the press conference, it was alleged that fake transport receipts of a non-operational transport company were used to falsely show that the seeds had been delivered to Verka warehouses. Subsequently, Verka Milk Plant Hoshiarpur allegedly entered these fake bills into official records and showed the seeds as distributed to various milk and cattle centres. From there, the records further showed supply to Verka societies, whereas in reality, no seeds ever reached the farmers.
Teena Choudhary and Charanjeet Singh Brar further alleged that farmers were paid their milk dues in cash and made to sign vouchers. Later, records allegedly showed that the farmers had purchased cattle fodder seeds and that the payment for the same had been deducted from their milk bills. Through this entire process, crores of rupees worth of losses were allegedly caused to both the farmers and Verka.
They said that Verka’s internal inquiry had also mentioned the scam, but no action has been taken so far. The leaders alleged that the matter was being suppressed due to the involvement of senior officials. Teena Choudhary and Charanjeet Singh Brar demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann order a fair Vigilance probe and a CBI inquiry into the entire matter so that strict action can be taken against those responsible.
