Chandigarh 19 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today took a jib at the Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar for “thanking” Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fertilizer subsidy, as if he had done something revolutionary or for the first time. Warring said that the fertilizer subsidy has been the official policy of all the governments for a long time and Prime Minister Modi was not the first one to grant it, as Mr Jakhar seems to make everyone believe.
He reminded the BJP leader that the Prime Minister had also asked the farmers to avoid using fertilisers. “What is the point in claiming to provide subsidies on fertilisers, when at the same time you tell them not to use these?” he asked.
The PCC president said that no amount of subsidy would be enough to meet other input costs of the farmers be it the diesel, the labour and the rising inflation. “These things will offset all the benefits of the so-called subsidy, which the government had to provide in any case to the farmers”, he said, adding, “moreover, the government was not doing any special favour to the farmers, as they were feeding the nation”.
