Chandigarh 14 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today, former Senior Deputy Mayor and Ward Councilor Jasbir Singh, along with Councilors Prem Lata and Damanpreet Singh, arrived at the Municipal Corporation to participate in a scheduled meeting and a sanitation workshop program. The event was intended to feature a presentation by the Mayor and the Public Health Department, providing information on the proper management of dry, wet, and hazardous waste, as well as strategies to raise public awareness regarding these issues. This program was organized under the banner of the campaign, "A Small Effort, A Big Change."
However, upon reaching the venue, they discovered that the meeting had been cancelled by the Mayor. The councilors stated that this act constitutes a betrayal not only of the councilors themselves but also of the trust of the entire city's populace. Furthermore, they were informed that this marked the second instance of the meeting being cancelled.
Expressing strong displeasure over the matter, the three councilors remarked that meetings are initially scheduled, only to be subsequently cancelled under one pretext or another. They pointed out that, given the ongoing election season, councilors find it extremely difficult to carve out time to visit the Municipal Corporation—often having to set aside urgent ward-related tasks and public grievances to do so—making it profoundly unfortunate and distressing to arrive only to be informed that the meeting has been cancelled.
Demanding an explanation from the officials, Councilor Prem Lata and Councilor 'Bunty' asserted that meetings should not be convened unless they are absolutely confirmed. They argued that such repeated cancellations result in a waste of the councilors' time and adversely impact the progress of public-related work. The three councilors collectively demanded that, in the future, full preparation and clarity be ensured prior to organizing sanitation programs and other meetings, so that public representatives are not subjected to unnecessary inconvenience.
