Chandigarh 2 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : As per the decision of the meeting held in Ludhiana on 21 May, Sanyukt Kisan Morcha Punjab held dharnas in front of DC offices of all Punjab today and submitted demand letters. A large number of farmers and laborers participated in these dharnas and raised their voices for their demands. In the demand letters given after these protests, the United Kisan Morcha demanded that the notification that took away the right of permanent representation of Punjab in the Bhakra Beas Administrative Board be immediately revoked, urea and DAP fertilizers be provided as per the requirement and their blackout be immediately stopped. The increased prices of diesel, petrol and gas be withdrawn. The decision to impose a cap on the supply of diesel for agricultural needs be withdrawn.
The farmer leaders said that the Registrar, Cooperative Societies had promised to implement the new credit limit by May 15, which has not been fulfilled till date. It was demanded from the Punjab government that the notification of the new credit limit be implemented immediately. Rejecting the insignificant increase in the MSC of crops by the Central Government, the farmers demanded that a law be made to guarantee the MSP and procurement of all crops and that the MSP be fixed as per the Swaminathan Commission formula of C-2+50%. The farmer leaders said that due to the lack of a law to guarantee the purchase of crops, farmers are badly burdened with debt. Therefore, the debt of all farmer workers should be waived and at least Rs 10,000 per month should be given to the farmer workers after the age of 58.
The farmers opposed the Seed Bill and the Electricity Amendment Bill and demanded that the ongoing negotiations regarding the India-US Free Trade Agreement be stopped and the framework that harms national interests in this regard should be rejected. It is worth mentioning that the US government delegation has come to India on a three-day visit for negotiations regarding this trade agreement. The United Kisan Morcha heard the Indian government that if any agreement is made against the interests of the country's farmer workers, it will be strongly opposed. The leaders of the United Kisan Morcha strongly supported the strike of the employees of the service centers and said that about 400 employees who were fired should be immediately reinstated, they should be made permanent and other demands should be accepted.
