Haryana PWD Contractors Association Submits Memorandum to Chief Minister, Warns of Work Suspension from June 15
Chandigarh 8 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Haryana PWD Contractors Association today held a meeting at Nirman Sadan and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, highlighting the severe financial challenges being faced by contractors due to the steep rise in construction costs, particularly the prices of bitumen and other petroleum products. The Association demanded a special economic and strategic relief package to offset the losses incurred by contractors. The Association stated that it has repeatedly urged the government to revise rates and extend project completion deadlines in view of the unprecedented increase in input costs.
Association Chairman Ashok Jain and other office-bearers said that if the government fails to take a positive decision on their demands within a week and does not extend the project completion deadline until March 31, 2027, the Association will launch a statewide work suspension agitation from June 15, 2026. They pointed out that the escalating costs have made the execution of many projects financially unviable, placing contractors under tremendous economic pressure. The Association urged the government to initiate discussions at the earliest and announce a special relief package to safeguard the interests of contractors and clear the pending payments amounting to nearly ₹1,000 crore.
The Association further alleged that the Haryana PWD (B&R) Department currently does not have sufficient budgetary provisions for the payment of pending bills, while contractors are being pressured to continue work, a situation they described as unjust and unsustainable. The Contractors Association demanded that the government ensure adequate budget availability for all ongoing development works and refrain from inviting tenders for new work programmes until funds for existing projects have been fully secured.
