UIDAI and Chandigarh Administration Come Together to Provide Identity to a 42-Year-Old Specially-Abled Woman
Chandigarh 11 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A 42-year-old specially-abled female resident, suffering from severe developmental disabilities since childhood, had remained without an Aadhaar. Due to her condition, she was unable to independently visit government offices or Aadhaar Enrolment Centres, making it extremely difficult for her family to secure an identity document for her. The challenge was further compounded by the fact that the resident did not possess any valid supporting document required for Aadhaar enrolment. Her elderly mother had spent years trying to secure a formal identity for her daughter so that she could avail various government welfare schemes and services.
Upon receiving the request, UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh took up the matter on priority. The case was closely examined and a solution-oriented approach was adopted. Since Aadhaar enrolment required valid supporting documents, efforts were first made to facilitate the issuance of a Voter Identity Card for the resident. After the required document was obtained, an Aadhaar enrolment kit from Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK), Sector 17, Chandigarh was deployed to the resident's residence. The enrolment was successfully completed after due verification of documents and prescribed procedures.
The case was thereafter closely monitored by UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh to ensure timely processing and generation of Aadhaar. The efforts culminated in the successful generation of Aadhaar, enabling the resident to establish her identity and access various government welfare schemes and services. Expressing her gratitude, the resident's elderly mother thanked UIDAI and Chandigarh Administration for their support and timely intervention. She shared that after years of struggle and uncertainty, her daughter had finally received a recognised identity, bringing immense relief and happiness to the family.
This initiative highlights the importance of making identity services accessible to all eligible residents, particularly those facing physical, developmental, or mobility-related challenges. It underscores the collective effort to ensure that essential services reach individuals who may otherwise find it difficult to access them. The case is a testament to UIDAI's citizen-centric approach and demonstrates how coordinated efforts between the Regional Office and field teams can transform lives by bringing Aadhaar services directly to the doorstep of those who need them the most.
