Western Himalaya heating faster than the east; stands to lose most snow in coming years: Study Chandigarh 20 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A new study combining 120 years of observed temperature records (1901–2020) with eight global climate models finds that the western Himalaya (Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh) is warming faster than the central and eastern stretches of the range, in every season and under every emission scenario tested. Winter is warming faster than spring, night-time temperatures are climbing faster than daytime highs, and springtime snow loss over the western Himalaya could be three times larger on a high-emission pathway than on a low-emission one by the end of the century. From Skills to the Marketplace: 50 Women Entrepreneurs to Showcase Their Strength in Chandigarh

Chandigarh 20 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The skills nurtured in the villages and home kitchens of Haryana are now set to make their way to the marketplace. Around 50 women entrepreneurs and members of Self-Help Groups from different districts of Haryana will showcase their products and share their success stories at Himachal Bhawan, Chandigarh, on August 21. Women working in food processing and food products will also be felicitated during the programme, with financial incentives for the top three participants.

The initiative is being organised under the guidance and patronage of Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan and Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Chaudhary, with the objective of promoting women’s entrepreneurship. The programme is being held under ‘Desi Craving’, an initiative of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform operated under the guidance of NITI Aayog.

Ruchita Bansal, a founding member of ‘Desi Craving’, said women in rural areas possess both skills and quality products, but their businesses often remain limited due to a lack of direct access to markets and customers. The programme aims to connect these women with buyers and help them build a sustainable customer network.

Market knowledge to be a key focus: The participants will also receive guidance on product marketing, increasing sales and availing benefits of government schemes. According to Ruchita Bansal, Haryana Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh has been invited to the programme and has assured all possible support for future initiatives. Several political leaders and administrative officials are also expected to encourage and motivate the women entrepreneurs.
