Lanes Around House Nos. 297 and 298 Turned into Pools of Stagnant Wastewater
Chandigarh 21 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The deteriorating sewerage system in Hello Majra, Ward No. 20, has raised serious questions about the claims of the Municipal Corporation. The lanes around House Nos. 297 and 298 are waterlogged with wastewater, causing considerable inconvenience to local residents. The situation has become so severe that the lanes appear less like public roads and more like pools of stagnant wastewater.
The photographs clearly show contaminated water accumulated up to the entrances of residential houses. Residents are being forced to pass through this dirty water for their daily movement. The prolonged waterlogging has also increased the risk of foul odour, mosquito breeding and the spread of infections. Local residents are questioning why the sewerage system in the area has been allowed to deteriorate to such an extent. If the sewer line is blocked, why are regular cleaning and maintenance not being carried out? Temporary removal of the water is not enough; the root cause must be identified and a permanent solution implemented.
Social Worker Arvind Singh, Praveen Khatri, Dinesh Yadav, Jatin Mishra, Mohan Kumar and Vishan Singh have urged the Municipal Corporation authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and send the concerned officers and sanitation staff to the spot. They have demanded an inspection of the sewer line, immediate mechanical cleaning, proper drainage of stagnant water, and a permanent solution to prevent recurring waterlogging. They stated that the residents of Hello Majra are equally entitled to clean streets and an efficient sewerage system. The work of the Municipal Corporation should not remain confined to paperwork; it must be visible on the ground. The public demand is clear — immediate relief from waterlogging and a permanent solution to the sewerage problem.
