CM never presented Punjab's case to NITI Aayog, so no hope for Punjab in upcoming budget : Bajwa
Chandigarh 31January ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Ahead of the Union Budget 2025-26, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Friday, rebuked the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for failing to present Punjab's case in the NITI Aayog meetings. "Economic issues and economic disputes between states and Union government are discussed in the NITI Aayog meetings in the presence of the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister, and Reserve Bank Governor. Punjab CM has never taken his position seriously. He has not even participated in the NITI Aayog meetings to present Punjab's case and safeguard Punjab's economic interests. So, I have no hope for Punjab in the upcoming budget," Bajwa added. Senior Congress Leader, Bajwa said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government has already adopted an indifferent attitude towards Punjab. Similarly, the AAP government in Punjab does not bother to seek financial assistance. Therefore, the people of Punjab have been bearing the brunt of the state and union governments' apathy. "The insincerity of the AAP government in Punjab can be well estimated from the instance that the Rs 290-crore grant meant for Punjab under the crop diversification plan (CDP) of the Centre has already lapsed. Meanwhile, the AAP government in Punjab has been making delayed efforts. It put forth a wish list for Punjab ahead of the union budget. The state government has sought a special budget for crop diversification programme," Bajwa stated. In a statement, Bajwa said that he had no hope from both, the union and state governments. The BJP government in the centre seems to have been determined to destroy the economy of the state, and at the same time, the AAP government in Punjab did not appear to be sane enough to protect Punjab's rights and interests.
