Allot land to people who have lost their land to river
Chandigarh 23 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Amid the ongoing crisis caused by the August floods in Punjab, Misl Satluj, a prominent socio-political organisation, has demanded better compensation from the government for the people, whose lives have been devastated by the floods. Mentioning that Misl Satluj has been providing help to the affected families on the ground, president, Misl Satluj, Ajaypal Singh Brar emphasized that people have lost their homes, their land, and their livelihood. Nearly 2500 villages have been directly impacted and crop on 4 Lakh acres of land has been completely damaged. While the government and NGOs have been helping people on ground, it is not nearly enough. People with unregistered (kachi) land are facing double the problem. No inspection is done on their land and they do not get any compensation for their farm land that they have been tilling since 1947. Misl Satluj demanded the registration of these lands and better compensation for the lands submerged in the river. People have also lost their land to the river. Misl Satluj demanded better compensation and allotment of land for these people. Brar also raised the issue of education in the flood-affected areas. Over 7,000 schools have been damaged. He shared that Misl Satluj has taken care of the admission fee for Classes 10 and 12 in several areas, and demanded that it should be waived off for these flood-affected areas. Furthermore, Misl Satluj shared that those people who have adopted some villages, have done some help but it is not enough. The administration has not been helping much as these villages have been adopted. They suggested that theyshould come forward tell the administration to help the people in need. Maan Singh Killi, Roman Brar and Sukhwinder Singh Bhagta Bhai, who had led relief teams in affected areas were also present, along with the affected farmers.
