Punjab Mandi Board Retired Employees Welfare Association Donates ₹31 Lakh to Global Sikh Charity for Flood Relief
Chandigarh 13 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : In a remarkable gesture of solidarity and compassion, the Punjab Mandi Board Retired Employees Welfare Association (PMBREWA) — a registered body representing over 2,700 pensioners of the Punjab Mandi Board — has extended substantial financial support to aid farmers affected by the recent floods in Punjab. The Association, through its dedicated network of 450 active members on WhatsApp, collectively raised over ₹33 lakh to assist flood relief efforts across the state. To ensure transparency and meaningful utilisation of funds, an 11-member committee was constituted to assess on-ground realities and identify credible organisations working in the flood-hit areas. After a series of internal consultations, the committee unanimously decided to contribute ₹31 lakh to Global Sikh Charity, an organisation recognised for its extensive humanitarian efforts and direct support to flood-affected families across several districts of Punjab. The cheque of ₹31 lakh was formally handed over to Amarjot Singh, Chartered Accountant and In-Charge of Funds at Global Sikh Charity, during a brief ceremony held at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Gurnam Singh Saini and President Amarjit Sivia of PMBREWA said that the association stands firmly with Punjab’s farmers and will continue to support community welfare initiatives in times of need. He added that the remaining funds would be utilised for similar charitable purposes identified by the committee. The initiative has been widely appreciated as a commendable example of retirees coming together to contribute meaningfully towards social responsibility and humanitarian relief.
