Grand Procession of the Cross Organized in Chandigarh on the Auspicious Occasion of Good Friday and Easter
Chandigarh 28 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : On the auspicious occasion of Good Friday and Easter, a 'Procession of the Cross' was organized in the city of Chandigarh by the Tricity Churches Association. The event was held under the leadership of Bishop Sahay T. Thomas (Roman Catholic Church, Chandigarh and Shimla), Father Premanand, and the Association's President, Lawrence Malik. Bishop Sahay T. Thomas (Roman Catholic Church, Chandigarh and Shimla) and Father Premanand stated that the organization of this Procession of the Cross serves as a tangible testament to love and peace. They emphasized that we should love and respect everyone.
Speaking on the occasion about the sacrifice and teachings of Jesus Christ, Lawrence Malik, President of the Tricity Churches Association, urged everyone to live by the "Seven Words" spoken by Jesus from the Cross, so that we may lead a happy and spiritually fulfilling life. These words symbolize forgiveness, love, faith, and sacrifice. The Seven Words of Jesus are as follows: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34) "Today you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43)"Behold, here is your son!" (John 19:26-27) "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34) "I am thirsty." (John 19:28) "It is finished." (John 19:30) "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46)
The Procession of the Cross commenced from the Roman Catholic Church in Sector 19, Chandigarh. The procession proceeded through Market 19, passed through the inner area of Sector 18, exited via the Sector 17-18 light point, and continued past the Sector 17-18-21-22 bus stand towards the Aroma light point. From there, it proceeded straight to the JW Marriott intersection, reached the Sector 34-35 light point, and finally turned inward to arrive directly at the Church of Chandigarh in Sector 35-B, where the event concluded.
A community meal was served to the gathering, and the ceremony concluded with a collective prayer. Present on this occasion, alongside Bishop Sahaya T. Thomas, were Father Premanand, Bishop Brian Anderson, Pastor Elisha Masih, Hillary Victor, Brother Yunus Peter, Raj Kumar Guddu, Pastor Jagdish Singh, Reverend Tanuj Pal Masih, Pastor Rajesh Balu, Bishop Randeep Matthew, and other members of the Christian community.
