Commandant Kamal Sisodiya: A Symbol of Courage, Leadership and Women Empowerment

Chandigarh 7 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the inspiring journey of CRPF Commandant Kamal Sisodiya stands as a shining example of courage, dedication, and commitment to the nation. Serving in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the world’s largest paramilitary force, Commandant Sisodiya has not only performed operational duties with distinction but has also emerged as a powerful voice for women empowerment and social transformation across India.

Currently entrusted with the prestigious responsibility of Chief Minister Security and other VIPs with Z-Plus and Z Category protection across Punjab, she holds a crucial position in safeguarding the highest leadership of the state. Her professionalism, leadership, and strategic command have earned her immense respect within the force and beyond.

Commandant Sisodiya created history by becoming the first woman officer to command a battalion that had participated in the historic Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. Under her dynamic leadership, the battalion achieved remarkable milestones and was recognized as the Best Administration Battalion and Best Sports Battalion, along with First Runner-Up for excellence in Track and Field Events in the entire CRPF. These achievements reflect her ability to inspire discipline, excellence, and teamwork among the troops.

Beyond operational duties, Commandant Sisodiya has been actively engaged in initiatives that promote the welfare of soldiers and society alike. She conceptualized and established a Herbal and Wellness Park for CRPF personnel, which was inaugurated and highly appreciated by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab. The initiative focuses on mental well-being, natural healing, and stress management for security personnel serving in demanding operational environments. Her service journey spans several challenging regions of the country including Jammu & Kashmir, Central India, Punjab, and the North-Eastern states, where she has consistently worked for the upliftment of communities and the empowerment of women. Through workshops, motivational lectures, and outreach programmes, she has inspired millions of young women to pursue careers in uniformed services and leadership roles.

Commandant Sisodiya has also championed skill development and self-reliance among women, helping create opportunities through self-help groups and livelihood initiatives in rural and tribal areas. Her humanitarian work extends to supporting acid attack survivors, Divyang individuals, and marginalized communities, reinforcing the belief that leadership in uniform must also serve society.

For her outstanding contributions to society and national service, she has received several prestigious honours, including the Veerangna Samman, Durga Shakti Award, Sher-e-Punjab Award, Women Achiever Award, International Woman of Courage Award, Women Empowerment Award, and the Rising Star Award by the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs India, presented by Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh.
