PhD in Music at the Age of 27: Dr. Gurvaris Singh Creates a Unique Milestone in the Field of Gurmat Sangeet

Chandigarh 5 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) :A  proud moment has emerged for Punjab’s religious and musical heritage. Gurvaris Singh has earned a PhD in Music in 2026 from Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, at the young age of just 27. With this achievement, he will now be known as Dr. Gurvaris Singh. Obtaining a doctoral degree at such a young age is considered a matter of pride not only for his family but also for the entire region and the music community.

The topic of his research was “The Path of Human Spiritual Development: Gurmat Sangeet.” In this study, he conducted an in-depth exploration of the spiritual, psychological, and social dimensions of Gurmat Sangeet. During his research, he elaborated on subjects such as the tradition of Gurbani Kirtan, the raga system, and the influence of music on human consciousness. He registered for the PhD program in 2022 and successfully completed the research after nearly four years of continuous dedication and hard work.

This important research work was supervised by the renowned spiritual writer, musician, and scholar Dr. Sangram Singh. Under his guidance, Gurvaris Singh completed his research with depth and seriousness according to academic standards. The university administration has also specially appreciated this achievement.

Dr. Gurvaris Singh’s father, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh (Chandigarh Wale), has been associated with Gurmat Sangeet and Kirtan service for the past 30 years. He has been serving spiritually through Kirtan in religious programs and gurdwaras. Gurvaris Singh grew up in a musical environment from childhood and has been performing Kirtan alongside his father for the past 10 years. This experience further strengthened his academic and spiritual perspective.

His mother Gurpreet Kaur also played an important role in his education and spiritual discipline. Family support and a spiritually enriched environment inspired Gurvaris Singh to pursue higher education. Dr. Gurvaris Singh credited this major achievement to his parents and his mentor Dr. Sangram Singh, saying that it is the result of their guidance, blessings, and continuous inspiration.

Scholars in the music field believe that this research on “The Path of Human Spiritual Development: Gurmat Sangeet” will serve as a guiding reference for future students and researchers. Presenting Gurmat Sangeet not merely as a religious performance but as a means of human consciousness and spiritual upliftment is considered the key highlight of this research.

Various social and religious organizations in the region have been sending congratulatory messages to Dr. Gurvaris Singh. His achievement serves as an inspiration for young people, showing that dedication, hard work, and spiritual connection can help one achieve great goals. The success of Dr. Gurvaris Singh is not only a matter of pride for his family but also marks a new chapter in the field of Gurmat Sangeet. It is hoped that he will continue to make significant contributions to music and spiritual studies in the future.
