ETT Teachers’ Union Punjab Announces “Do-or-Die” Agitation at Chandigarh Press Club Over Old Pension and Allowances

Employee gatherings to be held in villages of Cabinet Ministers; formal invitations to be sent

Final warning issued to DPI today over anomaly issue: Jaswinder Sidhu

Chandigarh 4 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Anger is steadily rising across Punjab against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to fulfill its promises to employees. The discontent is now set to turn into a major mass आंदोलन.

The ETT Teachers’ Union Punjab, during a state-level press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club, openly challenged the government and announced a “do-or-die” struggle. State President Jaswinder Singh Sidhu, along with his team, outlined the union’s future course of action. He stated that district-level meetings will be held across Punjab from May 6 to May 10 to strengthen the organization. Following this, from May 24 onwards, employee gatherings will be organized in the native villages of Cabinet Ministers demanding implementation of the Old Pension Scheme, release of DA, withdrawal of non-teaching duties such as census, BLO and drug survey duties, and regularization of all temporary employees.

The campaign will begin from the village of Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and will subsequently cover the villages of Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Aman Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema, Sanjeev Arora, Mahinder Bhagat and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. At these gatherings, a मंच will be set up with a designated chair for the concerned minister, where they will be expected to publicly explain their election promises, pension-related notifications, and government advertisements issued on the matter. District-level delegations will formally invite the ministers a week in advance. If ministers or the Chief Minister fail to attend, public meetings will be held across Punjab to expose the government’s policies. Employees and pensioners will also display “No Vote for AAP Party” banners outside their homes and in villages. Sidhu remarked that this is perhaps the first instance in India’s history where a government announced restoration of the Old Pension Scheme before elections, passed it in the Cabinet, issued a notification, and even released advertisements, yet failed to implement it even after four years.

Union leaders warned that if their demands are not addressed, Punjab will witness an unprecedented agitation. Meanwhile, the union also met the Director School Education (Elementary) and submitted a final memorandum regarding implementation of anomalies, release of pending dues, and removal of teachers from census duties. They warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, the DPI office in Mohali will be gheraoed on May 13. Senior leaders including Balraj Singh Ghaloti, Onkar Singh, Press Secretary Rajesh Kumar, and several district representatives were present on the occasion.
