Family Seeks Justice in Alleged Medical Negligence Case
Doctor Accused of Negligence, Her Husband Allegedly Part of Inquiry Committee
Chandigarh 19 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A 31-year-old man’s life was allegedly devastated following what his family describes as serious medical negligence after a violent assault incident. Addressing a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club, the victim’s family demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against the doctors allegedly responsible for the loss of his eyesight.
Raman Kumar, a resident of Ajauli village in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district, stated that the incident began on the night of April 6, 2024, after a minor argument with a group of motorcycle-borne youths during an evening walk. He alleged that around 15–20 people attacked him with sharp weapons, causing severe injuries, including critical damage to his left eye, a fractured wrist, and multiple injuries on his body. According to Raman, he was first taken to Civil Hospital Una and later referred to Civil Hospital Nangal and District Hospital Rupnagar. However, he alleged that he did not receive timely and proper treatment for his eye injury. The family accused an eye specialist, Dr. Geera Raninga, of failing to conduct proper examination and treatment, which allegedly resulted in permanent loss of vision in his left eye.
The family further alleged irregularities in the inquiry process. They claimed that Dr. Yuvraj Singh Heera, husband of the doctor accused in the case, was allegedly present during inquiry committee meetings, raising concerns over the fairness and transparency of the investigation. Raman Kumar also accused the police of distorting his statement and not accurately mentioning the weapons allegedly used in the assault in the FIR.
The victim’s family said they have submitted complaints to the Director Health Services, Punjab Medical Council, Punjab Human Rights Commission, DGP Punjab, and the Chief Secretary of Punjab, but claim that no justice has been delivered so far. The family has demanded an independent and fair probe into the matter along with strict action against all those found responsible.
