Indian Ocean Band Enthrals City at SRDF’s Second Charity Fundraiser
Chandigarh 3 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Sudhir Reema Dewan Foundation hosted its second charity fundraiser at Tagore Theatre Chandigarh, where the iconic rock band Indian Ocean delivered a captivating performance, leaving the audience spellbound. Known for pioneering Indian fusion music, the band’s seamless blend of rock, classical, folk, and jazz created a truly immersive experience for attendees. The foundation is rooted in an inspiring personal legacy. Late Sudhir Dewan, a liver transplant recipient, dedicated 17 years of his life to helping over 250 people receive life-saving transplants. Inspired by his commitment, the foundation was established under the leadership of Reema Dewan and Divya Dewan Mehta, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation.
In its very first year, the foundation has achieved significant milestones. It organised over 206 organ donation awareness sessions, encouraging more than 2,500 individuals to pledge on the national registry. Additionally, over 16,000 people were educated about the importance of organ donation. The foundation has also extended critical support to financially कमजोर transplant patients, including access to expensive post-transplant medications.
Speaking at the event, Managing Trustee Reema Dewan described the concert as “music with a purpose,” aimed at improving and saving lives, especially among underserved communities. She highlighted a pressing concern, noting that in India, an average of 49 people lose their lives every day while waiting for an organ transplant, and a new patient is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes. Expressing gratitude to volunteers, supporters, and donors, the foundation said that while their efforts may seem like a drop in the ocean, every drop counts. Echoing the words of Mother Teresa, they emphasised that the ocean would be incomplete without that single drop.
