Conspiracy to Rob People's Mandate Exposed — Rejected Candidates Must Be Reinstated, Mann Government Has Lost All Public Trust : Tarun Chugh
Chandigarh 21 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said on Thursday that the Bhagwant Mann Government in Punjab is killing democracy out of sheer fear of electoral defeat and to escape the anger that Punjab's people have developed against it for failing to fulfil a single promise. Having lost the public's trust through broken promises and sheer inexperience, the Mann Government is now trying to steal that public's vote. Democracy in Punjab is being replaced by a rule of force — and the drama of conducting elections through ballot papers despite EVMs being available is the clearest proof of this assault on democratic values. Chugh said that the affidavit filed today by the Election Commission of India before the Punjab & Haryana High Court, along with the detailed chain of correspondence it placed on record, has made everything clear. ECI had communicated in February 2026 itself that it was ready to provide the machines. But the Punjab Government kept manufacturing the excuse of EVM shortage. The ECI kept saying "take the EVMs" — and the Punjab Government simply refused to come and collect them. This was not administrative negligence. This was a deliberate, calculated conspiracy.
He said that 12,280 machines have now been dispatched by the Election Commission from Jaipur last night and are expected to reach Punjab by this afternoon. With this court order and this affidavit, it has become completely clear that the Bhagwant Mann Government was attempting to rob the people's mandate. Their cover has been blown — the entire facade of lies they constructed to snatch away the voting rights of Punjab's citizens has collapsed in a constitutional court. Chugh appealed directly to the Punjab Government, saying that EVMs have now arrived — conduct Punjab's elections through EVMs so that the truth can come out cleanly and completely. Only a transparent EVM-based election will give Punjab's voters the unmanipulated outcome they deserve. He said that the Mann Government's stubborn insistence on ballot papers was itself an admission that AAP is afraid of a free and fair fight — because ballot paper elections in local bodies give room for booth capture, counting manipulation, and the kind of electoral fraud that EVMs prevent.
He made a special appeal to the Hon'ble Court, urging that all candidates whose nomination papers were arbitrarily rejected, those who were forcibly pressured to withdraw, and those who were prevented from contesting elections must be given their rightful opportunity. The Election Commission must restore the nomination papers of all such candidates. What the affidavit has established and what the chain of letters confirms is that the Aam Aadmi Party was making a systematic attempt to rob Punjab's people of their mandate even before the first vote was cast. Chugh said that the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bhagwant Mann Government have completely lost the confidence of Punjab's people — through broken promises, through inexperience, and through an inability to deliver on a single commitment made to voters. It is precisely this loss of public trust that is driving them to try and steal votes rather than earn them. Today's affidavit has made everything clear. BJP demands that municipal elections in Punjab be held through EVMs without further delay, all wrongfully rejected nominations be restored, and the Bhagwant Mann Government be held fully accountable for this brazen conspiracy against Punjab's democracy.
