Moral qualities should be in every human being and especially in every Punjabi : Ajaib Singh Chatha
Canada 28 May (PDL) : Ajaib Singh Chatha, Chairman, Jagat Punjabi Sabha (World Punjabi Conference) while giving his views on “morality” said that moral qualities should be in every human being and especially in every Punjabi. In the past, morality was not taught as a separate subject in schools. There was no book and no separate syllabus. But still people were moral because morality was taught by joint families, teachers and wise people of the society. Grandparents and great-grandparents used to tell stories and teach children to speak the truth, respect elders, work hard and help others. Teachers used to teach not only studies but also the principles of living.
But today, times have changed very fast. Joint families have almost disappeared. Teachers only have time to complete their syllabus. has survived. Even socially, people cannot interfere in each other’s lives. Due to this, the need for moral education in today’s times has increased many times over. Our organization, Jagat Punjabi Sabha, has organized many seminars and conferences on this subject. We have also prepared a teachable book on morality, which was published in Punjabi, Hindi, English and Shahmukhi. This book includes the definition of morality, different categories, articles and stories, so that children and youth can get theoretical and practical information about morality.
Two principles are very important for living in society —
First, living in discipline
And second, helping others.
Governments make laws for discipline, but helping others and improving oneself is the free will of every human being. That is why we say: “Good conduct and free will or good and right actions done voluntarily are called morality.” These good deeds include speaking the truth, loving, being humble, getting education, maintaining good health, encouraging and helping others, etc. Only with moral qualities does a person become a complete and good person. Only with good people is a livable society created. A good atmosphere is also created in schools, colleges and homes only with morality.
We sent resolutions to the governments and requested that morality be taught in schools. Accepting our request, the Punjab government also issued a letter to the Punjab School Education Board in May 2018 that morality should be taught. But it is a pity that neither the board published a book on morality nor implemented this subject. We did not give up. We also wrote letters to other organizations and great personalities and requested them. We also received support from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Amritsar, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Khalsa University and Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal Ji. Our demand has not been fulfilled yet. Yes, we are certainly tired, but we have not given up. Without moral education, every kind of education is incomplete and without moral qualities, a person is incomplete. We believe that one day, a Punjabi hero, a person who loves Punjabiyat, will definitely fulfill this legitimate demand of ours. Hopefully, the day will definitely come when morality will also be an essential subject in schools.
