Administration Treating Sector-11 Market Murder Case with Utmost Seriousness : Chief Secretary H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS
CBM Meets Chief Secretary Over Traders’ Concerns, Demands Enhanced Security and Compensation
Chandigarh 17 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A delegation of senior office bearers of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) today met H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh, at the UT Secretariat and expressed deep concern over the recent brutal murder of an employee working at a chemist shop in Sector-11 Market.
The delegation was led by CBM President Sanjeev Chadha. During the meeting, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Secretary highlighting the growing sense of insecurity among traders and market employees and urging the Administration to take immediate and effective measures to address the issue. CBM Vice Chairman-cum-Official Spokesperson Diwakar Sahoonja informed that the delegation comprised Sanjeev Chadha (President), Charanjiv Singh (Chairman), Satpal Gupta (Chief Patron), Balwinder Singh (General Secretary), and Vinay Jain (Senior Functionary and Prominent Chemist).
In the memorandum, the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal raised several important demands. CBM President Sanjeev Chadha called for the strictest possible action against those responsible for the murder, stating that the accused should be punished in a manner that serves as a strong deterrent and prevents such incidents from recurring in the future. Chairman Charanjiv Singh demanded adequate financial assistance for the family of the deceased employee. He pointed out that the family had lost its primary breadwinner and was in urgent need of support.
Chief Patron Satpal Gupta emphasized the need to strengthen police security in city markets, particularly around chemist shops that remain open late at night. He called for regular police patrolling and round-the-clock PCR deployment in vulnerable market areas.
General Secretary Balwinder Singh urged the Administration to conduct a comprehensive security audit of all city markets, install additional CCTV cameras, and periodically review security arrangements to ensure the safety of traders and employees.
Chief Secretary H. Rajesh Prasad gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that the Administration is treating the matter with utmost seriousness. He stated that the Police Department has been directed to further strengthen security arrangements in markets, expedite the investigation and legal action against the accused, and examine the issue of compensation for the victim’s family on a priority basis. Following the meeting, the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal thanked the Chief Secretary for his positive response and reiterated that ensuring a safe and secure environment for traders and employees is essential for the smooth functioning of Chandigarh’s economic and commercial activities.
