Cancer Survivors Day
Six-year-old girl among 150 cancer survivors felicitated
S.A.S.Nagar 7 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Marking Cancer Survivors Day, around 150 cancer survivors joined in Max Hospital, Mohali’s program on cancer awareness here on Sunday. The program highlighted the inspiring journeys of cancer survivors and reinforced the importance of early detection, timely treatment, and ongoing support throughout the cancer care journey.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sachin Gupta, Director-Medical Oncology, Max said, "Surviving Cancer is a testament to strength, determination, and the progress made in cancer care. Today, many cancers can be successfully treated when detected early and managed through a multidisciplinary approach." Several survivors shared their personal experiences of overcoming cancer, inspiring others with stories of hope, perseverance, and recovery. The event also highlighted the importance of cancer prevention, regular screening and strong support systems.
Six-year-old Arnika’s battle with blood cancer didn't just test her strength—it saved her family's spirit. Her parents recall that amidst the despair of last year's diagnosis, it was their young daughter who pulled them out of depression and taught them to fight like warriors. Speaking to a gathering at the event, Arnika channeled the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, urging others to face illness without fear and to fight with unwavering grit. That same indomitable spirit is shared by Amritpal Kaur (43) of Jalandhar, who refused to give up hope even when faced with a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. "I kept telling myself that it’s just a disease," Amritpal shared. "It can only keep me down for a short time. In the long run, my hope and resilience will conquer it."
