Haryana Governor to be Chief Guest at International Olympic Day Celebrations on June 23
Chandigarh 12 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Hockey Chandigarh President Karan Gilhotra met Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh and formally invited him to attend the International Olympic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest on June 23 at the Hockey Stadium in Sector 42, Chandigarh. During the meeting, Gilhotra briefed the Governor about the Chandigarh Senior Men’s and Women’s Hockey Championship 2026 being organized by Hockey Chandigarh, as well as the Olympic Day celebrations. He informed him that the championship is being held from June 17 to 23 under the guidelines of Hockey India and will conclude with the final matches and a special felicitation ceremony on June 23.
Gilhotra said that International Olympic Day aims to inspire young people to take up sports and promote the core Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect. The occasion will also witness the felicitation of Olympians, international players, technical officials, umpires, and dedicated members of Hockey Chandigarh for their outstanding contributions to the sport. Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh accepted the invitation and conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the event. He emphasized the importance of sports in the overall development of youth and praised initiatives that encourage greater participation in sporting activities.
The International Olympic Day celebrations will be held on June 23, 2026, from 5:00 PM onwards at the Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, Chandigarh, and are expected to attract a large gathering of players, sports enthusiasts, and officials from across the region.
