Mann must not resort to defiance against Akal Takht : Warring
Warns against putting state in confrontation with Takht
Asks, if Maharaja Ranjit Singh could appear before Takht, why can’t Mann
Chandigarh 16 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must not resort to open defiance against Shri Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs.
Reacting to Mann dismissing the Akal Takht edict on him, Warring said, while he (the Chief Minister) has every right to defend himself and present his point of view, he could have done it without resorting to such defiance that seeks to undermine the authority of the Akal Takht. “Such confrontation is avoidable”, he remarked.
The PCC president observed that the Chief Minister should avoid politicizing the matter. He warned against putting the government against the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs, which does not bode well for the state. Moreover, he added, undermining the authority of the Akal Takht will not be acceptable to any true Sikh.
Warring noted that Mann being the Chief Minister of Punjab has an additional responsibility to respect the sanctity and dignity of Shri Akal Takht. He said, the CM should have taken cue from Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who despite being a great emperor of the great Sikh Empire, submitted to the diktat of the then Akal Takht Jathedar and presented himself before the Akal Takht. “If Maharaja Ranjit Singh could appear before the Akal Takht, why can’t Mann?” he asked.
