Regional Training Camp and Workshop on Migration Particulars Survey (NSS 81st Round), All India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS) and Situation Assessment Survey (SAS)
Chandigarh 11 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, conducts large-scale sample surveys on various socio-economic subjects such as health and education, household consumer expenditure, the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), Urban Frame Survey, price statistics and industrial statistics. These surveys provide vital inputs for evidence-based policy formulation and development planning at both the national and state levels.
Among these NSS surveys (81st Round), the Migration Particulars Survey All India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS) and Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) are important nationwide surveys. The Migration Particulars Survey aims to collect detailed information on migration patterns, reasons for migration, duration of stay, employment and educational migration, and other socio-economic aspects associated with migration in India.
The objective of AIDIS is to collect comprehensive quantitative information on household assets, capital formation and indebtedness. The survey also gathers information on the sale and loss of assets, borrowing and repayment activities, and deposits held by households with institutional agencies. The Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) aims to collect detailed information on the receipts and expenditure of agricultural households from farm and non-farm activities, as well as income from other economic activities, to estimate the average monthly income of agricultural households.
The Migration Particulars Survey, AIDIS and SAS are scheduled to be conducted by NSO (FOD) during the period July 2026 to June 2027. To enhance the quality of data collection under these surveys, the Regional Office, Chandigarh organised a Regional Training Camp for the State of Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The training sessions were conducted by expert officers from the Regional Office, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Shri Deepak Mehra, Deputy Director General, Regional Office, Chandigarh.
A workshop-cum-training programme on the Migration Particulars Survey (NSS 81st Round), AIDIS and SAS was organised from 9th to 12th June 2026 at CSIO (CSIR), Sector-30, Chandigarh. More than 80 officers from the Regional Office, Chandigarh participated in the programme. In his inaugural address, Deepak Mehra, Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), emphasised the importance of collecting reliable and accurate data. He highlighted that high-quality data collected by field officials plays a crucial role in understanding socio-economic conditions, migration trends, household indebtedness, agricultural income and asset ownership patterns, thereby supporting evidence-based policy formulation and development planning.
