Decision to meet the Governor of Punjab for other demands including water
Strongly condemns the repression being carried out by the Punjab government against the struggling sections including the unemployed - the government should resolve reasonable demands through dialogue instead of repression
Demands to remove the limit on diesel for farmers and to stop the black marketing of fertilizers
Ludhiana 14 June (PDL) : A meeting of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha Punjab chapter was held under the leadership of Dr. Satnam Singh Ajnala, Balkaran Singh Brar and Harjinder Singh Tanda. In which a thorough discussion was held on the future strategy of the struggle on the demands related to Punjab and the Central Government. Having decided to take forward the struggle for the demands related to the serious water crisis in Punjab, against the ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement with the US and for other farmer demands, a meeting has been announced with the Governor of Punjab in this regard. It is worth mentioning that after water cannons and tear gas were fired on the farmers marching towards the Governor Bhawan on the bridges of Chandigarh last month, the Governor of Punjab had invited the United Kisan Morcha for talks, which had been postponed due to the treatment of the farmer leaders. Now the Morcha has decided to hold a meeting with the Governor of Punjab and has asked the Governor of Punjab to give time in this regard. In the meeting, it was decided to launch a public campaign in July to further intensify the struggle in the future and to hold a morcha in case the demands are not accepted. It was decided that if the governments do not give up, strict steps will be taken by the end of August. The meeting condemned the repression being meted out to the struggles of various sections of the society, including the unemployed, across the state and expressed strong displeasure over the attitude of the Punjab government. It was demanded that the Punjab government should resolve their legitimate issues and demands by holding talks with the organizations of the struggling sections. The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha also took the Punjab government to task on the issue of shortage of diesel and fertilizers as per the needs of the farmers and said that the limit imposed on diesel for the farmers should be immediately revoked. The government should strictly crack down on the black marketing of fertilizers. While strongly advocating for ensuring the supply of canal water to every farm in Punjab, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has rejected the claims of the Punjab government to provide canal water to the farmers on a large scale. SKM claimed that the facts being propagated by the Punjab government regarding canal water are far from the reality.
The United Kisan Morcha, while continuing to support the struggle being waged by the farmers' organizations in Tarn Taran to save the Sheron Sugar Mill and its land, demanded that the government modernize the sugar mill and run the mill keeping in mind the diversification of agriculture. The United Kisan Morcha, while seriously considering the newspaper reports of the construction of a defense embankment on the border with Pakistan, has said that in the past also, during the floods, the national highway had become a major obstacle in the water. Now the defense embankment can also become a cause of obstruction in the natural flow of water. The Morcha has demanded that the central government clarify its position in this regard.
Among others present in the meeting were Sarvshri Balvir Singh Rajewal, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Buta Singh Burj Gill, Angrej Singh Bhadaur, Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala, Ruldu Singh Mansa, Captain Major Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, Nirvel Singh Daleke, Baldev Singh Latala, Gurmeet Singh Mahima, Pawan Kumar Sogalpur, Nachhattar Singh Jaito, Sukhdev Singh Arayanwala, Pavitar Singh Lali, Jagmohan Singh Patiala, Gurdev Singh Mangewal, Mukesh Chander Sharma, Lakhbir Singh Nizampur, Raghbir Singh Benipal, Jhanda Singh Jethuke, Jarnail Singh, Sukhdev Singh Tur and Raminder Singh Patiala.
