Chandigarh 2 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh today turned the tables on the Kejriwal-Bhagwant Mann duo by playing the politics of duplicity to bring shame to Punjabis. Lashing out at the AAP dishonesty, Chugh said AAP has been a sleeping parterner with the Congress for convenience and it has been exposed time and again since 2014. Chugh underlined the efforts made by the Modi government to bring victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots to justice and consequently Sajjan Kumar was convicted and many others are in the dock. TBy staging political drama in the name of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre despite failing to fulfil its own manifesto promises to victim families, the AAP has exposed its shallow politics. Chugh said that before Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann hold protests in the name of 1984, they should first answer for AAP’s 2017 manifesto. The party had promised ₹5 lakh compensation, affordable housing and government jobs to families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre. Years have passed since AAP came to power, yet victim families continue to wait for the promises made to them. AAP used their pain to seek votes and then abandoned them after coming to power. When members of victim families sought to meet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, they faced police action instead of compassion.
He said that the Narendra Modi Government, in contrast, did not reduce justice for the victims of 1984 to empty promises. Thirty years later, files gathering dust were taken to court, an SIT was constituted, closed cases were reopened and the process of justice was revived. Legal action was pursued against the accused, while victim families were provided financial assistance that should have reached them decades earlier, along with employment support. Government figures cited in the talking points state that 3,465 jobs were provided to victim families, including 36 by the Delhi State Government, 338 by the Central Government and 121 by the Haryana Government. This is the difference between the BJP’s politics of justice and rehabilitation and AAP’s politics of broken promises. Chugh said that the ED investigation has also exposed the hollowness of AAP’s claim of being a party of “zero corruption.” According to the ED, material has emerged concerning an alleged network involving individuals linked to the Chief Minister’s Office in matters relating to transfers and postings, government files and administrative influence. The investigation has also referred to the seizure of ₹20.98 lakh in unaccounted cash from Nitin Gohal’s premises, along with WhatsApp chats and material allegedly connected with government documents. These are extremely serious allegations and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must break his silence and answer the people of Punjab.
