Chandigarh/S.A.S.Nagar 2 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The protest being held by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha in Sector 48-C of Chandigarh entered its second day today. The number of farmers has increased in thousands compared to yesterday. Dozens of more farmers joined the protest on tractor trolleys. Raising slogans with colorful flags of farmer organizations, the farmers reached the pandal and listened to the views of the speakers. Today's proceedings of the stage were conducted under the leadership of the presidium consisting of Harmeet Singh Qadian, Gurmeet Singh Bhattiwal, Jangveer Singh Chauhan, Avtar Singh Mahima, Jaskaran Singh Sran, Harjinder Singh Tanda and Bhupinder Singh Aulakh.
Addressing a large gathering today, various speakers took a dig at the Central and Punjab governments, saying that both governments have failed to resolve the issues of farmers, agriculture and water. They do not care about the suffering of the people. Such behavior of the rulers may force the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha to take tough decisions in the future. The spokespersons of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha unanimously said that they had submitted demand letters to both the governments at different times for a solution to the water crisis in Punjab, cancellation of the free trade agreement, debt relief for farmers and laborers, and other demands, but both the governments threw the demands of the farmers in the trash. They have been forced to stage a protest due to the neglect of their demands. He said that on one hand, farmers are raising their voices on the roads of Chandigarh and Mohali, but on the other hand, both the governments do not care about it. Such behavior marks the anti-people character of the BJP, which is in power at the Center, and the Aam Aadmi Party, which is in power in Punjab.
It is worth mentioning that before the Chandigarh Morcha, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha had sent demand letters to the Central Government through the Governor of Punjab and to the Punjab Government through DIG Nanak Singh. However, there has been no response from either side so far. The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has given an internal message to all senior leaders to attend the meeting on September 4 to discuss the behavior of both governments in its meeting and decide on the agenda of future strategy. Tributes were paid in the pandal today after the news of the death of Ajmer Singh Samra, former president of the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee and leader of the farmers' and workers' movement.
Balbir Singh Rajewal, President of Kisan Union (Rajewal), said that the food supplier, who meets 70 to 80 percent of the country's food grains, is today taking to the streets for justice. This is a matter of serious concern. Appealing to farmers to unite for their rights, Rajewal said that not only farmers but all sections of society are suffering from the governments of the time. Rajewal demanded a minimum price of Rs 500 per quintal for sugarcane and said that the pending payments of sugarcane growers, loan waiver and other important issues should be resolved immediately.
Harinder Singh Lakhowal said that there is a demand for complete waiver of loans incurred by farmers and timely payment of pending payments of sugarcane growers. Old water sharing agreements should be scrapped. Manjit Singh Pandher said that the government should not test the patience of the farmers any further, but should give priority to accepting the demands of the farmers.Raminder Singh Patiala said that targeting the rulers of the country, the farmers of Punjab will now return home after taking back their rights from here. Buta Singh Shadipur said that if the Punjab and Central governments do not resolve the issues under their jurisdiction, then the farmers of the state will forget the past of the governments this time. He said that this protest may extend beyond September 7th.

The stage was conducted by Angrez Singh Bhadaur, Pawan Sogalpur, Mukesh Chandra Sharma, Darshan Singh Jatana and Harbhajan Singh Dhuhar.
