Chandigarh Congress holds strong protest in Dadu Majra, blames BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation for bad condition of roads and financial mismanagement

Chandigarh 31 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee today held a strong protest against the gross negligence and continuously deteriorating civic infrastructure of the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation in Dadu Majra Colony. The residents of the colony have been suffering for years due to broken, pothole-ridden roads, which have not been carpeted on time. Due to this, accidents are taking place every day and people are facing great difficulties. Hundreds of colony residents and Congress workers joined the march carrying placards, flags and banners and raising slogans against the Municipal Corporation. Addressing the gathering, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee President H.S. Lucky launched a scathing attack on the BJP and said that the BJP has made the Municipal Corporation a bastion of mismanagement and financial mismanagement.  He reminded that during the Congress regime, the Municipal Corporation had a fixed deposit of more than Rs 500 crore, which provided stability and sufficient funds for development works. But today, under the BJP rule, the corporation is reeling under financial crisis and is unable to provide even basic civic amenities. Lucky said that 9 out of the last 10 Mayors have been from the BJP and their wrong decisions, wrong priorities and financial irregularities have brought the Municipal Corporation to the brink of ruin. He questioned – “When the Municipal Corporation was financially strong during the Congress rule, why is it drowning in debt and liabilities today under the BJP government? Their failed governance has completely ruined the functioning of the Corporation and pushed Chandigarh into this crisis.” He also condemned the BJP for trying to take credit for the recent allocation of Rs 125 crore. Lucky said that such additional grants were available during the Congress rule too, but the Congress never made it a propaganda tool.  He stressed that this money should be spent only on development works and not on clearing outstanding dues. “The BJP leaders went to meet the Administrator only for show, while the money was deposited directly in the corporation’s account. Their drama cannot hide their failure,” Lucky added. State Secretary Mr Narendra Chaudhary said that even after writing a letter to the Chandigarh Administrator regarding the problems faced by school children due to two-foot deep potholes on the colony roads, the condition of the roads remains the same. The protest was organised by Chandigarh Congress spokesperson Narender Chaudhary and Block Congress Committee president Prince and Surinder Pal Residence Welfare chapter in which several Congress leaders from Dadu Majra, Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Bunty, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta, Yadvinder Mehta, Rajdeep Sidhu, Aman Salech Mamta Rana, Babita, Lalit Birla, Anoop Rawat Sonia Jaswal Sunil Sood, Yogita, Mamta Dogra all unanimously held the BJP ruled corporation responsible for the pathetic condition of civic amenities and warned that Congress will not sit silent if carpeting of roads is not started soon after the monsoon ends. In a major political development during the day, Indal Yadav from Purvanchal joined the Congress party along with his 100 supporters. He expressed confidence that Congress will register a landslide victory in the 2026 municipal elections in the presence of H.S. Lucky and Kripanand Thakur at Congress Bhawan Sector-35, Chandigarh. Later, appointment letters were also given to the new office bearers of Congress Minority Department by H.S.  Lucky. Minority Department President Asif Chaudhary was also present on this occasion. The purpose of this program was to further strengthen the organization at the grassroots level.
