Chandigarh 19 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at Shri Digamber Jain Mandir, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh. The program began at 6:00 AM with the sacred Abhishek (ritual bathing of the deity) followed by Shantidhara (holy water offering ritual). After the Shantidhara, a melodious and spiritually enriching Akshaya Tritiya Katha (religious discourse) was presented. Thereafter, Vibhuti Jain performed a graceful dance beginning with an invocation, and Aashi Jain also presented a devotional dance performance, which deeply moved the devotees present.
On this occasion, members of SS Jain Sabha were present in large numbers. The Chief Guest, DGP (Human Rights), Haryana, Shri Sanjeev Jain, along with Shri Dharam Bahadur Jain, President of Shri Digamber Jain Society, and Shri Vijay Jain, President of SS Jain Sabha, offered a ceremonial coconut (Shriphal) to Muni Shri Prateek Sagar Ji Maharaj and sought his blessings.
In his discourse, Muni Shri Prateek Sagar Ji Maharaj explained the significance of Akshaya Tritiya in today’s life and said that this festival inspires people towards self-discipline, charity, and righteousness. He explained that the word “Akshaya” means that which never diminishes, signifying that the merits, charity, and spiritual practices performed on this day yield everlasting benefits.
This day is considered highly auspicious for charity, penance, and self-restraint. According to Jain tradition, it was on this day that Lord Rishabhdev broke his year-long fast by accepting food for the first time, thus beginning the tradition of offering food (Ahara Daan) to monks. The festival also inspires people to follow the path of non-violence, service, and compassion. It is believed that starting any new venture on this day brings special success and prosperity. On this sacred occasion, 51 couples had the privilege of offering Ahaar to Maharaj Ji.
Dharam Bahadur Jain expressed gratitude to all present and stated that such programs will continue to be organized in the future. A grand community meal (Bhandara) was organized by Jain Milan Chandigarh, where thousands of devotees partook in the meal. Shri Ramesh Jain, President of Jain Milan Chandigarh, informed that this was their 33rd Bhandara. Additionally, Ahinsa Seva Samiti organized a sugarcane juice distribution service. The organization arranged this service at 17 different locations across the Tricity. The program concluded in an atmosphere of devotion, unity, and spiritual upliftment, truly reflecting the essence of Akshaya Tritiya.
