123.47 lakh metric tonnes of wheat procured from the mandis of Punjab state : Harchand Singh Burst

Nagar 20 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board Harchand Singh Burst said that the wheat procurement operations were carried out smoothly in the mandis of Punjab state during the Rabi season 2026-27. Due to the sound arrangements made in the mandis during the season, the procurement operations could be carried out smoothly and the farmers, arhtiyas, laborers were not allowed to face any kind of problem.
He said that this time a total of 123.47 lakh metric tons of wheat has been procured from the state's mandis by government agencies and private level. Government agencies have procured 121.74 lakh metric tons of wheat, under which 39,94,602 metric tons have been procured by PUNGRAIN, 2,58,350 metric tons by FCI, 31,28,227 metric tons by MARKFED, 28,32,109 metric tons by PUNSUP, 19,61,010 metric tons by warehouse. Along with this, 1,73,458 metric tons of wheat have been procured at the private level. 114.55 lakh metric tons of wheat have been lifted from the mandis.
He said that the highest wheat arrival and procurement has taken place in Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab. 9,05,144 metric tons of wheat have been procured here, out of which 9,03,624 metric tons of wheat have been procured by the government and 1520 metric tons of wheat have been procured by the private sector. While Sangrur has been at the second position with 9,00,700 metric tons and Bathinda has been at the third position with 8,90,564 metric tons of wheat. He said that the farmers have been paid for the crop in their bank accounts immediately. During the Rabi season 2026-27, wheat has been procured at a price ranging from Rs. 2585/- to Rs. 2660/- per quintal.
Burst said that before the procurement process started in the mandis of the state of Punjab, proper arrangements were made, under which clean drinking water, electric lights, cleanliness, bathrooms, shade and a control room was also established at the head office of the Punjab Mandi Board, due to which the farmers were able to sell their crops without any problem. The Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board appreciated the honesty and dedication of all the officers and employees for carrying out their duties in a smooth manner during the season. He thanked the officers and employees of various agencies including the arhtiyas, laborers, farmers, Mandi Board/Market Committees, who have made a significant contribution in the smooth running of the procurement process in the mandis.
