ALRIGHT MELA: Live in Chandigarh: A Fusion of Cultures, Sounds and Global Grooves
Chandigarh 15 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Alliance Française de Chandigarh, in collaboration with the French Institute in India, the French Embassy in India, the Chandigarh Administration and Tagore Theatre, will be holding ALRIGHT MELA, Mediterranean Electro concert on 18 June 2026 at 7:00 PM at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh. Entry is free and the concert is open to all. As part of Fête de la Musique 2026 and the wider Month of Music celebration, French trio Alright Mela will tour India this June & Chandigarh will be the opening concert of the tour. Alright Mela brings together Mediterranean influences, Gnawa traditions, oud, electronic beats and psychedelic synth textures to create a sound that is both rooted and contemporary. Their music carries the energy of the dance floor, but also the urgency of the world around us, with songs that reflect on migration, discrimination, war, identity, tolerance and the possibility of living together.
Formed by Markus, Cheb Xavi and Moroccan Gnawa artist Jaouad El Garouge, Alright Mela moves between Europe, the Maghreb and the Middle East. Their performances are built for movement, but not only for celebration. They invite audiences into a space where groove, resistance and reflection meet, creating a live experience that is hypnotic, socially conscious and deeply physical.The concert is part of Alliance Française de Chandigarh's continued commitment to promoting cultural exchange and bringing internationally acclaimed artists to the city. Audiences can expect an immersive evening of global rhythms, intercultural collaboration, and innovative soundscapes.
About the artists
Jaouad El Garouge comes from a family of renowned Moroccan Gnawa musicians. A singer, dancer, and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed internationally and collaborated with celebrated artists across Africa and Europe. His work is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Gnawa music while embracing contemporary influences. Markus is a guitarist, composer, and oud player whose artistic journey began in theatre before expanding into music. Trained in classical guitar, he has composed and arranged music for concerts, documentaries, and live performances, while developing numerous intercultural musical collaborations. Cheb Xavi is a versatile musician, composer, and producer who transitioned from saxophone and clarinet to electronic music. His work combines electronic textures with world music influences, creating innovative and immersive sonic experiences.
