Balbir Singh Sidhu Slams Punjab Government Over Power Crisis and Failure to Supply Canal Water to Tail-End Areas Punjab Government Must Immediately Resolve the Problems of Farmers and the General Public : Balbir Singh Sidhu S.A.S.Nagar 30 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader Balbir Singh Sidhu launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the severe power and irrigation crisis in the state, alleging that its false claims and administrative failures have pushed farmers and ordinary citizens into extreme hardship. He said that during the crucial paddy transplantation season, farmers are receiving neither adequate canal water nor sufficient electricity, putting thousands of acres of crops at risk of drying up. Sidhu stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly claimed that canal water has been ensured up to the tail-end areas of the irrigation network. However, the ground reality is entirely different....

An inspiring seminar on Scientific and Environmental Social Responsibility was organized by The Environment Society of India, Chandigarh, to promote responsible citizenship and sustainability.

Chandigarh 30 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : As part of its ongoing Internship Programme, The Environment Society of India (ESI), Chandigarh, organized a seminar on “Scientific and Environmental Social Responsibility: Building Responsible Citizens for a Sustainable Future.” The programme was attended by interns from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; DAV College, Karnal; Chandigarh University, Gharuan; Government Post Graduate College, Sector 11, Chandigarh; and DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, along with members of The Environment Society of India, including N.K. Jhingan, Secretary, The Environment Society of India and Secretary (Environment), Bhartiya Ekta Manch; Ashok Kumar Bansal; and Ms. Anjali Kapoor. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Archana Mishra, former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Law University, Sonipat.

Welcoming the interns and the resource person, N.K. Jhingan emphasized the importance of positive thinking, social responsibility, and the role of students and citizens in helping people in need. He highlighted the need to promote compassion, awareness, and social understanding among youth. During her address, Dr. Archana Mishra advised the interns that success in life can be achieved through positivity, dedication, and discipline. She emphasized that a positive mindset helps individuals succeed in every field of life. She also appealed to the participants to respect their parents and elders, acknowledging the sacrifices they make for the success and well-being of their children.
Dr. Mishra further stressed the importance of understanding basic laws, rules, and regulations, and being socially responsible during emergencies and day-to-day situations. She encouraged participants to help others in cases of accidents, emergencies, and public difficulties. She also highlighted that the Government promotes and appreciates such responsible citizen behaviour and suitably rewards those who assist people in need.

In addition, Dr. Mishra encouraged the interns to adopt values-based and ethical practices in daily life. She advised them to care for animals and develop compassion towards all living beings. Referring to traditional Indian values, she suggested feeding cows and other animals regularly, including offering the first bread of the day, as a gesture of kindness and gratitude. She also emphasized respecting all religions and promoting harmony in society. Further, she advised participants to plant Tulsi near the entrance of their homes, highlighting its environmental and health benefits, including its role in improving air quality and helping keep mosquitoes  Anjali Kapoor, a teacher and social worker, also addressed the gathering and encouraged students, interns, and participants to always remain willing to help others. She stated that kindness and service to humanity lead to success and earn goodwill and blessings from society.

The interns showed keen interest throughout the seminar and actively participated in the interactive session. They appreciated the valuable guidance and practical knowledge shared during the programme.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ashok Kumar Bansal, who emphasized that every citizen should have basic knowledge of important rules and regulations, including traffic rules, income tax, and GST. He stated that such awareness enhances knowledge and enables individuals to educate and assist others in society.
