Brutal Action Against Unarmed Youth Was Carried Out at the Direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Who Claims to Deliver a ‘Rangla Punjab’ : Jai Inder Kaur
Patiala 6 June ( PDL ) : The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned the brutal lathi-charge carried out by the Punjab Police on unemployed ITI-qualified youth who were peacefully protesting outside the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) headquarters in Patiala, demanding employment and justice. Punjab BJP Mahila Morcha President Jai Inder Kaur, accompanied by the BJP leadership and members of the district unit, visited Government Rajindra Hospital today to meet the youth who were seriously injured during the police action. She expressed deep concern over their condition and strongly criticized the conduct of the state government and administration.
Speaking to the media, Jai Inder Kaur stated that members of the “2600 Lineman Apprenticeship All Punjab Union” had been staging a peaceful protest for several days outside the PSPCL headquarters. These young aspirants had successfully cleared the required examinations but were continuously being denied appointment letters by the government. She termed the repeated delays and broken assurances as highly condemnable. According to her, the youth were initially asked to wait due to elections, and when they were ultimately forced to take to the streets to demand their rights, they were met with a brutal lathi-charge allegedly carried out under the supervision of senior police officials.During her visit to the protest site, Jai Inder Kaur also spoke with Patiala SSP Varun Sharma over the phone and urged him to immediately and unconditionally release the union leaders and youth who had been taken into police custody. Addressing the protesters, she announced that she would soon submit a memorandum to the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, seeking strict action against the officials responsible for the alleged excesses committed against the unarmed youth.
Launching a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government, Jai Inder Kaur said that before coming to power, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had repeatedly claimed that no section of society in Punjab would be forced to protest and that no lathi-charge would take place under his administration. She questioned whether assaulting unarmed youth demanding employment was the Chief Minister’s vision of a “Rangla Punjab.” She further alleged that such action could not have been taken without directions from the highest levels of the government.Jai Inder Kaur also raised serious concerns regarding the treatment of the injured youth at Government Rajindra Hospital. She alleged that instead of ensuring proper medical care, efforts were being made to discharge the injured individuals hastily under administrative pressure in an attempt to downplay the severity of the incident and shield those responsible from accountability. She stated that the people of Punjab were witnessing an unprecedented level of authoritarianism and misuse of power under the present government. Such actions, she said, are unacceptable in a democratic society and represent a betrayal of the promises made to the youth of the state. Concluding her remarks, Jai Inder Kaur assured the protesting youth that the Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly with them and will continue to support their struggle for justice and employment opportunities.
