Sargun Arora won one silver and two bronze medals at the Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships
Chandigarh 30 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Ceylon Masters Badminton Championship was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The high-level four-day tournament, held at the Air Sports Complex Rajagiriya Badminton Courts, saw participation from 500 players from 11 different countries – India, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, USA, UAE, Norway, Canada, France, Switzerland and Chinese Taipei.
Sargun Arora of Chandigarh won a silver medal in the 60+ Mixed Doubles with her partner Praveen Taneja, a bronze medal in the WD 60+ with Sumitra and a bronze medal in the 55+ Mixed Doubles with Subhash. It is worth mentioning that Sargun Arora is a former national level badminton player and now represents India in the Masters category. Having participated in the State Badminton Championships eight times, Sargun Arora has also won several prestigious tournaments in India.
Other Tricity athletes who brought glory to the country included Praveen Taneja, who won a silver medal in the MD 60 category. Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya was the chief guest at the championships, officially opening the event. City International Badminton Coach Surinder Mahajan congratulated the medal winners.
