Yamunanagar/Chandigarh 30 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ): The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chandigarh, organised a one-day district-level media workshop, 'Vartalap', in Yamunanagar, Haryana. The main theme of the workshop was "12 Years of Achievements of the Central Government's Welfare Schemes," under which detailed discussions were held on the successful implementation of various welfare schemes of the Central and State Governments and the significant achievements accomplished over the past 12 years. Deputy Commissioner of Yamunanagar, Preeti, attended the Vartalap workshop as the Chief Guest. The workshop witnessed active participation from eminent journalists, senior officials and representatives of various government departments. Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner of Yamunanagar, Preeti, IAS, said that the welfare schemes implemented over the past 12 years have significantly improved the lives of citizens, especially those at the last mile of society.
She appreciated the dedicated efforts of all departments in the district and emphasised the need for continuous dialogue and coordination between the administration and the media to sustain the pace of development. She highlighted the achievements made under Ayushman Bharat, PM Surya Ghar Scheme, Mudra Yojana, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, and several other public welfare schemes. While interacting with media persons, the Deputy Commissioner also stressed the importance of keeping social responsibility in mind while using social media platforms. She said that people of all generations, from youngsters to senior citizens, are using mobile phones and various social media platforms, making it extremely important to understand how these platforms are used. She urged people, especially media professionals, to remain more vigilant and spread awareness about the positive use of social media.
On the occasion, Naveen Kumar Ahuja, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Yamunanagar, emphasised that the Central Government's public welfare schemes have proved to be milestone in the district's development. He stated that these welfare initiatives have led to remarkable achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, energy and employment generation. Addressing the workshop, Puneet Saxena, IIS, PIB Headquarters, New Delhi, briefly explained the efficient functioning of the PIB Fact Check Unit and highlighted how the Press Information Bureau plays an important role as a bridge between the Government and the public. Similarly, Ahmad Khan, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Chandigarh, highlighted the objectives of Vartalap and said that such programmes serve as a meaningful initiative to take public welfare schemes to the people through the media. He gave a detailed presentation on the structure and functioning of various media units under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the region and emphasised the vital role of the media in effectively disseminating development-related information to the grassroots.During the workshop, several technical sessions were organised in which different government departments presented their report cards and achievements of the past 12 years. As part of these sessions, Civil Surgeon, Yamunanagar, Dr. Divya Mangla, and Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr. Charu Kalra, shared comprehensive progress reports on major health initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMY), Ayushman Bharat, TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and HPV Vaccination.
Dr. Divya Mangla highlighted that the maternal mortality rate in Yamunanagar has declined significantly, with a major contribution from the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMY). She further mentioned that not a single maternal death has been reported in government hospitals of Yamunanagar since April 2026. Speaking about HPV vaccination, she said that Yamunanagar's objective is not merely to top the charts but to achieve 100 percent coverage, as they do not want to leave even a single girl behind. Dr. Kalra also informed that commendable work has been carried out to improve the district's sex ratio, along with the successful implementation of several other welfare schemes.
During the session, Manoj Kumar, APO, DRDA, Zila Parishad Yamunanagar, shared information about the transformative infrastructural developments achieved under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Speaking on financial empowerment, Subhash Chand, Lead District Manager (LDM), Punjab National Bank (PNB), Yamunanagar, highlighted the MUDRA Scheme and Stand-Up India, stating that these initiatives have strengthened self-reliance among local youth and aspiring entrepreneurs. Similarly, Industrial Extension Officer from the MSME Department, Rohit Tindal, spoke about industrial development and the new livelihood opportunities created through the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (FME) Scheme.
Senior Agriculture Department official, Aditya Pratap, also highlighted the agricultural reforms undertaken during the past 12 years, with a special focus on promoting Natural Farming and the success of the unique water conservation initiative, 'Mera Pani-Meri Virasat'. He informed that farmers practising natural farming have so far received subsidies of more than Rs 30,000 per farmer. He said the Central Government considers water a valuable heritage and launched the 'Mera Pani-Meri Virasat' scheme to conserve it. He further informed that farmers cultivating crops requiring less water are being incentivised with Rs 8,000 per acre in the State. He also highlighted that the district is working efficiently to reduce stubble burning and that, due to government initiatives and various schemes, stubble is now being transformed from 'Waste to Wealth'. He also appreciated the 'Meri Fasal Mera Byora' portal, stating that it has helped farmers obtain urea while also curbing the black marketing of urea. This has benefited both the Government and the farming community. A representative of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) stated that the PM Surya Ghar Scheme has proved instrumental in promoting solar energy and achieving green and clean energy goals. The workshop concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ahmad Khan, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Chandigarh, who expressed gratitude to the district administration and media personnel for making the programme a grand success.
