Why are GMADA officials so fearless and whose patronage do they have?
S.A.S.Nagr 18 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP Punjab State Press Secretary Hardev Singh Ubha expressed serious concern over the performance of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and said that the condition of development works in the sectors under GMADA has been very disappointing for the last almost a decade. Roads are broken, street lights are out, parks are not being maintained, sanitation facilities are continuously deteriorating and people are facing daily difficulties due to lack of other basic amenities. Ubha said that the biggest question is that if people have been continuously complaining for years and flaws in development works are coming to light, then why has no effective action been taken against the responsible officials yet. It is natural for people to ask why some GMADA officials are so fearless and whose patronage they have. The answers to these questions can only be revealed through an impartial and high-level investigation.
He said that allegations of alleged special concessions being given to defaulter builders against whom action should have been taken as per the rules are constantly coming to the fore. If there has been any violation of rules, negligence or misuse of powers at any level, it should be investigated with complete impartiality and the truth should be brought to the fore. Hardev Singh Ubha said that the condition of most of the parks under GMADA is worse than worse. Despite various departments being responsible for the internal and external cleanliness of the parks, accountability is nowhere to be seen. The poor condition of the roads, closed street lights, dirt and incomplete development works show that there are serious shortcomings at the administrative level, the common people are bearing the brunt of which.
He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to conduct a high-level, independent and time-bound investigation into the development works carried out by GMADA during the past years, the alleged concessions given to defaulter builders, the Ubha said that if during the investigation any officer, employee or other concerned person is found to have violated the rules or failed to discharge their responsibilities, strict action should be taken against him as per the law. Also, the basic facilities in all sectors under GMADA should be improved immediately so that the people can get the facilities for which they have been waiting for years.
He said that the main objective of the development authority is to provide better infrastructure and facilities to the people. Therefore, ensuring transparency, accountability, and honest administration is the greatest need of the hour.
