​Manimajra/Chandigarh 8 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : ​A special meeting of the All Manimajra Residents and Welfare Association, Sector-13, Chandigarh, was held at the Skylight Hotel located near Samadhi Gate. The meeting was presided over by Shamim Ahmad (Bharat Tailor). Several serious issues related to the basic civic amenities of Manimajra were discussed in detail during the meeting, and it was decided to meet senior officials of the administration and the Municipal Corporation to resolve them.

​Association President and Founder Rajbir Singh Bhartiya, Chairman Subhash Dhiman, Vice President Shamim Ahmad, Secretary Mohammad Arif Hussain, Secretary Satnam Bains alias Titu, Legal Advisor Advocate Arun Vashisht, Advisor Joginder Thakur, Joint Secretary Sanky, Shehzad Alam, Jhulelal, Ramesh Chand Sirswal, Gurbachan Lal, and other members were present at the meeting.

​Some officials sent messages prior to the meeting informing that they would not be able to attend due to personal urgent work, but they expressed their full consent to the decisions to be taken by the Association.

​Organizational Expansion: Jhulelal Appointed Vice President and Ramesh Chand Sirswal Appointed Secretary: ​Important decisions regarding the organizational expansion of the All Manimajra Residents and Welfare Association were also taken during the meeting. With the objective of making the Association's work stronger and more comprehensive, Jhulelal was appointed as Vice President and Ramesh Chand Sirswal as Secretary. ​The newly appointed officials were welcomed and congratulated by the members present at the meeting. On this occasion, President and Founder Rajbir Singh Bhartiya congratulated both newly appointed officials, stating that receiving new responsibilities in the organization will further strengthen public interest and social work. He said that all officials should raise the problems of the residents of Manimajra on a priority basis and work with complete dedication and responsibility in the interest of society.

Association President and Founder Rajbir Singh Bhartiya said that the people of Manimajra have been facing several basic problems for years. He stated that dirty and unfit water, broken internal roads, poor sanitation, dilapidated parks, and an outdated sewerage system have become serious troubles for the general public. He stated that a survey of all broken internal roads in Manimajra should be conducted and constructed in a phased manner. The sanitation system should be improved with immediate effect, and regular cleaning and maintenance of parks must be ensured.

Rajbir Singh Bhartiya said that adequate sports facilities are not available for children and youth in Manimajra. Along with developing better sports grounds for children, a college should be established specifically for girls. ​He stated that the daughters of Manimajra should not be forced to travel to distant areas for higher education. The availability of higher education facilities at the local level is the need of the hour. Concern was also raised in the meeting regarding the safety of children during school dismissal times. Secretary Mohammad Arif Hussain demanded that police patrols should be increased at the main gates and surrounding areas of schools during closing hours to ensure children's safety and control traffic and anti-social activities.

Serious concern was expressed in the meeting regarding the problem of drug abuse in Manimajra. Vice President Shamim Ahmad said that to protect the youth from drugs, the administration, police, social organizations, and the general public must work together. A proposal to run a comprehensive public awareness and social campaign against drug abuse was unanimously passed in the meeting. ​The Association will also meet police and administrative officials in this regard.

Terming the old and dilapidated sewerage system of Manimajra as a serious problem, newly appointed Secretary Ramesh Chand Sirswal said that the old sewerage system needs to be modernized so that people can get permanent relief from recurring sewage-related problems. The issue of pending files related to NOCs was also prominently raised in the meeting. Chairman Subhash Dhiman and Legal Advisor Advocate Arun Vashisht stated that many NOC files related to Manimajra are pending in the Municipal Corporation sub-office located in Manimajra, due to which common people are forced to make repeated rounds of offices for their work. The Association demanded that pending NOC files be reviewed, disposed of in a time-bound manner, and people be relieved from unnecessary trouble.

Taking serious cognizance of all the issues, it was unanimously decided in the meeting that a delegation of the Association will soon meet the Administration, the Administrator of Chandigarh, and senior officials of the Municipal Corporation.​The delegation will present all major issues before the officials, including water, roads, sanitation, parks, sports grounds, girls' college, school security, drug problem, sewerage system, and pending NOC files of Manimajra. ​Rajbir Singh Bhartiya said that the voice of the people of Manimajra can no longer be ignored. The Association will continuously make efforts until every citizen's problem reaches the concerned department and is resolved. Our goal is to provide Manimajra with better roads, a clean environment, a safe atmosphere, quality water, better education, sports facilities, and respectable civic amenities.
