Reacting to the proposed ‘yatra’ of the BJP against drugs in Punjab, Warring said, it is indeed a fact that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has not only failed to curb the drugs, but has added to the problem. He said, the AAP has been a complete disaster in curbing the drugs. But, he added, the BJP government at the centre cannot escape the responsibility either. CU Punjab Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour, Calls for Nasha Mukt Yuva and Viksit Bharat

Bathinda 16 August ( PDL ) : Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm, bringing together the University fraternity to remember the sacrifices behind India’s freedom and reaffirm its commitment to nation-building. The celebrations began with the singing of the National Song. To mark the occasion, the Hon’ble Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika unfurled the National Flag and the University Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the University Anthem. Prof. Wusirika then inspected the parade presented by the University’s NSS students and security personnel. As part of the celebrations, faculty members, officers, staff and students took the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” pledge, administered by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Dean Student Welfare. The University also paid tribute to Shaheed Happy Singh and honoured his family members, including his father, Shri Dev Raj Ji, and brother, S. Sukhwinder Singh.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs who made immense sacrifices for the nation and urged everyone to uphold the values of courage, sacrifice and service. Speaking about Viksit Bharat @ 2047, he called upon the youth to play an active role in nation-building through education, skill development, entrepreneurship and innovation. He emphasised CU Punjab’s commitment to equipping students with the skills and opportunities needed to transform knowledge into solutions for societal challenges. Highlighting the spirit of “we” and “us”, he urged students, faculty and staff to collectively contribute to the University’s continued growth and progress. Appreciating CU Punjab’s progress since its establishment in 2009, he urged the University community to build on these achievements and work collectively for CU Punjab’s continued growth.

At the outset, Prof. Rajinder Kumar, Prof. Ramanpreet Kaur and Dr. Rohit Yadav introduced the theme of the programme, highlighting Punjab’s significant role in the freedom struggle, the importance of safeguarding the hard-earned freedom, and the collective responsibility towards nation-building. The celebrations also featured a vibrant cultural programme presented by students of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts, adding patriotic fervour and enthusiasm to the occasion. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma, followed by the singing of the National Song and the National Anthem. After the ceremonial event, CU Punjab students took out a Tiranga Rally on the campus, expressing their patriotic spirit and collective resolve to contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a stronger, self-reliant and developed nation.
