Warring condemns Haryana Police brutality against Sikh protestors Says, CM Saini owes an answer why peaceful protestors were beaten up Demands release of Sikh youth Chandigarh 14 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the brutality by Haryana Police on peaceful Sikh protestors in Ambala last night who were demanding release of two Sikh youth and an FIR against an accused who had rammed his car on people. Warring, in a statement issued here today, said that people were peacefully protesting in Ambala and seeking the release of two Sikh youths arrested arbitrarily by the Haryana Police. The PCC president also questioned the silence of the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on the matter. He told Saini that he owed an answer to the Sikhs and Punjabis on the entire incident. CU Punjab hosts a Special Talk on ‘Human Rights, Constitutional Values and Role of Higher Educational Institutions in Nation Building’

Bathinda 13 August ( PDL ) : A special talk on “Human Rights, Constitutional Values and the Role of Higher Educational Institutions in Building an Inclusive, Just and Equitable Society” was organised at the Central University of Punjab on Wednesday. The programme was held under the patronage of Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika. Priyank Kanoongo, Member, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was the Chief Guest, while Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, Central University of Punjab, attended as the Guest of Honour. Welcoming the guests and participants, Prof. Rajan Bhandari, Department of Geography, introduced the speaker and briefly highlighted the importance of the theme in the present social and educational context.

Addressing the gathering, Priyank Kanoongo, Member, NHRC, highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in nation building. He emphasised that education and teachers have played a significant role in shaping the character of individuals as well as the destiny of nations. Citing the examples of Raja Bharat and Chandragupta Maurya, he highlighted the significant influence and contribution of their teachers in shaping their lives and perspectives.

Kanoongo also spoke about the challenges posed by separatist and divisive ideologies to national unity and integrity. He emphasised that Central Universities carry a significant responsibility towards bringing about positive social reforms and contributing to the intellectual and social development of the nation. He urged students and researchers to remain conscious of their social responsibilities and to uphold constitutional values, social harmony and national unity.

Emphasising the power of ideas, Kanoongo stated that “Our thoughts determine the direction of our future.” He encouraged the students and research scholars to cultivate positive, constructive and nation-oriented thoughts and contribute meaningfully to society. The programme was attended by approximately 110 students and research scholars and 20 faculty members.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Divyansh Pandey, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, University administration, faculty members, students and research scholars for their participation and support. The special talk provided an opportunity for students and scholars to reflect on human rights, constitutional values, social responsibility and the important role of higher educational institutions in building a just, inclusive and harmonious society.
